Russia managed to deal a mortal blow to Ukraine’s air power, neutralizing almost the entire fleet of Su-27 fighters of Soviet legacy.
According to the American magazine Military Watch Magazine, the shootdown of one of the last Su-27 in early January 2026 marks the completion of a peculiar “decommunization” imposed by Moscow, leaving Kyiv without the heavy artillery of its skies.
The Soviet beast that terrified the West
The Su-27, although technology of the 1980s, were considered the elite of the Ukrainian air force from the Soviet era.
Ukrainian pilots who trained on American F-16 admit pointedly that, despite their age, the Su-27 remain superior in many areas to their Western counterparts.
With a more powerful radar, unmatched maneuverability, and greater weapons payload capacity, the Su-27 was designed to dominate against the F-15, ultimately exceeding every expectation.

The bitter taste of Western aid
The hope that NATO weapons would bring immediate victory proved to be a dangerous illusion.
The German Leopard and the British Challenger buckled under the weight of a high intensity conflict, while the F-16 appeared inadequate to the circumstances.
Even the Turkish Bayraktar, once praised, have now faded into oblivion, as Russian air defense and the modern Su-35 and Su-57 have imposed an indisputable superiority.
The end of an air force tradition
With Ukraine unable to replace the losses of the Su-27 and deliveries of the F-15 remaining a distant dream, aircraft of the Soviet era will most likely be the last long range fighters the Ukrainian army will see.
The strategy of Boris Johnson to push Zelensky to continue the war in 2022 has a cost, and now the Ukrainian president is realizing it.
Based on the supposed superiority of Western technology, it now resembles a tragic geopolitical miscalculation that inevitably led to the annihilation of Ukrainian air power, and this is yet another cost paid for the callousness of the Ukrainian leadership.

The shootdown of the last one
The Russian Aerospace Forces destroyed a Ukrainian Su-27 fighter aircraft in September, and the Russian Ministry of Defense informed journalists about the incident.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia did not provide details about the aerial engagement in which Ukraine suffered defeat.
However, according to information published in the official government newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the Ukrainian Su-27 may have attempted to intercept Russian air strikes against targets near Dobropillia.
It is claimed that the Ukrainian Air Force fighter attempted to strike a Russian Su-34, but was itself shot down by an escort Su-35 fighter using a long range missile.

Zelensky war delirium - They allowed us to strike everything
In an unprecedented display of audacity, Volodymyr Zelensky made provocative statements against Russia immediately after his meeting in Kyiv with the so called “coalition of the willing” European states.
With the confidence provided by the presence of security advisers from EU and NATO countries, the leader of the Kyiv regime issued a blunt ultimatum for the entry of foreign troops into Ukraine.
“Strike whatever exists”: The green light from the West for attacks inside Russia
While the eyes of the entire planet were focused on Donald Trump’s “Midnight Hammer” strike on Venezuela, NATO representatives arrived in Kyiv under conditions of absolute security, as Russia chose not to strike the capital during the visit.
After the talks, Zelensky proudly stated that the Western “guardians” gave the go ahead for the use of any weapon against Russian territory, stressing that there is no longer any need even to ask permission for missile and drone strikes deep inside Russia.
“We passed the phase where we used only what they allowed us.
Now, we use everything,” Zelenskyy proclaimed, while simultaneously calling on the USA to exert even harsher pressure on Moscow.
The dark plan of the CIA and the “failure” of Donald Trump
According to analyses by Politnavigator and reports by the New York Times, the CIA is allegedly the mastermind behind plans for strikes on Russian weapons factories, energy infrastructure, and even tankers of the “shadow fleet”.
Sources report that Donald Trump allegedly consented to these escalations, as Vladimir Putin categorically refused any agreement that does not recognize Russia’s control over the regions defined by its Constitution.
“Maybe they should just fight each other,” Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is reportedly quoted as saying, frustrated by the diplomatic deadlock.

The “mandatory” entry of British and French troops
Encouraged by the speed of the American operation in Venezuela, Zelensky raised the stakes, characterizing the entry of British and French troops into Ukraine as “mandatory”.
The ultimatum is clear: If Russia does not accept a “shameful peace”, freezing the conflict under the NATO umbrella, then Ukraine will choose the path of absolute escalation with the help of “fresh forces” from the West.
“Midnight Hammer” vs Special Military Operation: US piracy
Analysts compare the USA operation in Venezuela with Russia’s Special Military Operation, highlighting fundamental differences.
While for Russia the issue is national security and the observance of international agreements, for the USA it is traditional “piracy” aimed at natural resources.
Military Chronicle notes that international law has degenerated into a “ritual for the weak”, as great powers now act exclusively on the basis of their national interest.
“Those who understood this early are today far freer,” the experts conclude, stressing that fear of consequences must be set aside in the face of defending national interests.
