Trump unlikely to advance Ukraine talks before November 3

If Democrats prevail in the midterm elections, everything will be decided on the battlefield

The administration of US President Donald Trump is unlikely to manage to achieve any «significant progress» in negotiations regarding Ukraine before the November congressional elections, notes Russian political analyst Malek Dudakov, pointing out that if the Democrats prevail, the peace process will become even more complicated and, consequently, for now «everything will be decided on the battlefield».
«They wanted to achieve significant progress on the Ukrainian issue before the congressional elections.
However, we see that in all probability they will not succeed.
After the elections in the US, the political landscape will be somewhat different, as at this moment it appears more likely that the Democrats will prevail in the congressional elections.
Naturally, they will significantly restrict the maneuvering room of Trump on the Ukrainian issue.
Therefore, after the elections, it will be quite difficult to continue the same negotiations», the analyst pointed out.
In this context, according to Dudakov, «everything will be decided on the battlefield».
«Ukraine faces a difficult winter ahead, during which its energy infrastructure will sustain strikes and its economy will continue to disintegrate.
In all probability, by the spring or summer of next year, taking into account the battlefield successes of Russia and the partial collapse of the Ukrainian economy, we may indeed transition to a more substantive phase of the negotiation process.
At that stage, Russia will be in a much more favorable position to impose its terms and demands on the Ukrainian issue», the expert assessed.
