Hormuz: New sweeping Iranian strike sets USS Truxtun and USS Mason ablaze – Historic US defeat
Fierce and hours-long engagement between Revolutionary Guard Navy and US destroyers – "Powerful response to Trump's breaking of the ceasefire"

The US is paying a heavy price for breaking the ceasefire in the Strait of Hormuz following the bombings of Iran's Qeshm Island. According to CBS News, the Revolutionary Guard Navy set the destroyers USS Truxtun and USS Mason on fire with anti-ship missiles on May 8. Specifically, the two US Navy destroyers faced a second, more violent Iranian attack today while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CBS News, citing American officials, the USS Truxtun and USS Mason were subjected to a "fierce" and "prolonged" Iranian assault during today's passage. This attack was significantly more aggressive than the barrage the same warships faced earlier this week. Iranian fast attack craft closed to such a short distance that the American ships had to open fire to keep them at bay. Simultaneously, Iranian forces launched drones and missiles throughout the confrontation.

Fierce and hours-long engagement between Revolutionary Guard Navy and US destroyers

The engagement lasted several hours. For its part, CENTCOM announced that "American warships and support aircraft organized a multi-layered defense, resulting in neither of the two US vessels being hit." However, satellite data—including from NASA—provide a completely different picture.3_1156.jpg

The CENTCOM statement described the response as "self-defense strikes" against Iranian missile launch positions, command and control centers, and ISR hubs (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance). This is now interpreted as the explanation for the American response to today's attack rather than a separate provocation. The sequence of events is as follows: Iran attacks US destroyers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the US defends itself and proceeds with retaliation against the launch infrastructure that enabled the attack.

"Powerful response to Trump's breaking of the ceasefire"

Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Guard Navy (IRGC) stated that it conducted a large-scale combined operation against US military vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, following a ceasefire violation and aggression by American forces.4_937.jpg

In a statement issued in the early morning hours of May 8, the IRGC Navy Command stated: "Following the violation of the ceasefire and the aggression of the terrorist US military against an Iranian oil tanker near the port of Jask, and as destroyers of the terrorist US military approached the Strait of Hormuz, a very large-scale and precise combined operation was carried out."

Iran expanded the operation to commercial targets - Ocean Koi tanker seized

Iran has seized the oil tanker Ocean Koi, as reported by the Fars news agency. According to the report, Iran captured the Ocean Koi due to an alleged attempt to disrupt Iranian oil exports.5_687.jpg

As stated, in implementation of a decision by the Supreme National Security Council and following a judicial order, the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran planned and executed a special operation in the Sea of Oman. During this operation, it seized the offending tanker Ocean Koi, which was carrying an Iranian oil cargo and, taking advantage of regional conditions, was attempting to harm and disrupt oil exports and the interests of the Iranian people. During the operation, Army Navy commandos and marines led the offending tanker to the country's southern coasts and handed it over to judicial authorities.

Frenzy in Hormuz with anti-ship, ballistic missiles and explosive-head drones

The announcement added that IRGC naval forces "opened fire on the enemy destroyers using various types of anti-ship ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, as well as destructive drones equipped with high-explosive warheads."6_511.jpg

"Intelligence monitoring shows significant damage to the American enemy, and three invading enemy warships quickly fled the Strait of Hormuz area," the statement concludes.

The prelude on the night of May 7-8 - The attack with Hadid-110 stealth drones against the US Navy

It is noted that the IRGC Navy published videos on May 8 of the night attack carried out against three US Navy warships near the Strait of Hormuz. The attack took place after the Islamic Republic accused the US of violating the ceasefire by targeting two ships in the Strait of Hormuz and attacking civilian areas.

The American strikes hit "an Iranian oil tanker traveling from Iranian coastal waters near Jask toward the Strait of Hormuz, as well as another vessel entering the Strait near the Fujairah port in the Emirates," a spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stated in a broadcast. The spokesman added that other attacks targeted "civilian areas along the coasts of Bandar Ham, Shirik, and Qeshm Island." The IRGC Navy later announced that a "very large-scale and precise combined operation" was carried out in response to the US raids. In its statement, the government reported that various types of anti-ship ballistic and cruise missiles, along with kamikaze drones equipped with high-explosive warheads, were used to target US Navy warships.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that three guided-missile destroyers, the USS Truxtun, the USS Rafael Peralta, and the USS Mason, were targeted near the Strait of Hormuz, but claimed in a statement that none of the warships were hit. Videos released by the IRGC Navy revealed that several Hadid-110 jet-powered suicide drones were used in the attack. The Hadid-110, which features a silent polyhedral design, is considered the fastest suicide drone of the Islamic Republic, with speeds exceeding 510 kilometers per hour. The drone is said to have a range of 350 kilometers and carries a 30kg warhead. Not much is known about its guidance system, but it is believed to be equipped with a satellite-aided inertial navigation system.

It is worth noting that at least one Raad-2 munition was also used in the attack against the US Navy warships. The munition, which features X-type wings, has a range of 20 kilometers and carries a 5kg warhead. It is also equipped with an electro-optical targeting system.

US President Trump later boasted on Truth Social that "great damage was caused to the Iranian attackers," while repeating the claim that none of the warships were hit.

Araghchi: They are deceiving Trump and leading him... into the swamp – The CIA is wrong

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the US of repeatedly undermining diplomatic efforts in favor of military escalation, without providing specific details. "Every time a diplomatic solution is on the table, the US chooses a reckless military adventure. Is this a crude pressure tactic? Or is it the result of some saboteur deceiving the POTUS again and leading him into a new swamp?"7_392.jpg

"Whatever the causes, the result is the same: Iranians never succumb to pressure and diplomacy is always the victim," the Iranian Foreign Minister stated on X. He also commented on a recent American newspaper report citing a CIA report, according to which Iran can withstand the US naval blockade for months and that, despite US and Israeli military actions, it retains at least 70% of its missiles. "Also, the CIA is wrong. Our missile arsenal is not at 75% compared to February 28. The correct number is 120%. Regarding our readiness to defend our people: it is at 1,000%," said Araghchi, who argued that the US military presence in the Persian Gulf causes instability with far-reaching consequences.

Iran drowned Trump's Hollywood narrative in the waters of Hormuz

According to ABC News, US President Trump emphasized: "The ceasefire continues. It still holds." Trump also stated that: "The retaliation against Iranian targets was just a friendly strike." In an interview with ABC News, Trump also claimed, in a Hollywood fashion with fictional elements, that three "world-class" American destroyers successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz while under fire.

Trump also claimed that the three destroyers suffered no damage, but that Iranian forces suffered heavy losses. He mentioned that vessels used by Iranian forces, which he claimed were used to compensate for the Iranian naval fleet's weakness, had been destroyed. The American president also stated that drones approaching US destroyers were shot out of the sky before reaching their targets. He further claimed that missiles were fired at the US destroyers, but American forces intercepted and shot them down "with absolute ease." He continued by threatening Iran, saying: "Just as we crushed the Iranians today, if they don't sign the deal quickly, we will crush them with greater strength and violence in the future." Trump also announced that three American destroyers will return once more to the US naval blockade operation, which he described as a "wall of steel." These claims and the Hollywood-style fictional narratives come at a time when many American media outlets have reported in recent weeks that the Pentagon is understating the damage from Iranian attacks.
