Turkey has issued an arrest warrant against the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on charges of genocide in the Gaza Strip.
This was announced by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
According to information, the country has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and 36 other senior officials on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
According to the announcement, the warrants also concern Minister of Defense Israel Katz, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Eyal Zamir, and Navy Commander David Saar Salama.
The prosecutor’s office stated that the decision was made following an investigation into “systematic” attacks against civilians in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, including attacks on hospitals, humanitarian aid convoys, and residential areas that have killed 46,000 Palestinians, many of whom are women and children.
The prosecutor stated that the evidence, including forensic reports and witness testimonies, indicates “individual criminal responsibility” for acts constituting war crimes and genocide.
Given that the leaders of Israel are located outside of Turkey, the Istanbul Criminal Court has already issued arrest warrants in absentia.
It had previously been reported that the United States wants Turkey to join the peacekeeping force in Gaza, despite Israel’s opposing stance.
It is recalled that Netanyahu recently ordered “immediate and strong strikes” against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.
