Gordon Ramsay "slams" menus for those taking Ozempic and Mounjaro: "Absolute nonsense"

"We are absolutely not going to succumb to Mounjaro. Their problem is they overeat in the first place!" Ramsay said about obese people.

The famous chef Gordon Ramsay did not hold back when asked to comment on whether he would modify his restaurant menus for customers using popular weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro. In an interview with The Sunday Times, the 59-year-old chef was asked if he would create special menus with smaller portions for customers taking GLP-1 drugs, which reduce appetite. In September, famous chef Heston Blumenthal announced that his three-Michelin-starred restaurant in the UK, The Fat Duck, would offer a new tasting menu, "The Mindful Experience," with reduced portions for customers taking weight-loss medication.
However, Ramsay did not mince his words. "That is absolute nonsense," he stated. "We are absolutely not going to succumb to Mounjaro. Their problem is they overeat in the first place!" The chef added emphatically: "There is no way we are going to create an Ozempic tasting menu to make you feel less fat by 10:30 at night."

The popularity of GLP-1 drugs and Ramsay's reaction

Ozempic, Mounjaro, and other GLP-1 drugs were originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes, but they have become widely known for their powerful effect on weight loss. They work by mimicking hormones that regulate appetite and blood sugar, reducing hunger, slowing down digestion, and causing a greater feeling of satiety. During his interview, Ramsay also expressed his frustration with the influence of influencer culture on the dining experience and criticized the use of mobile phones during meals. "Flash photography everywhere and posting about how good the food is," he commented characteristically.

The dining experience over social media

Despite acknowledging that social media can promote restaurants, Ramsay stressed that the experience of other customers should not be degraded. In fact, he characterized American customers as "the worst offenders" regarding mobile phone etiquette in restaurants: "They are always taking pictures with the flash on," he said. The chef is currently starring in the 24th season of Hell's Kitchen, as well as the shows MasterChef, Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service, and Next Level: Chef.

The restaurant empire and the new investment

Gordon Ramsay's network includes nearly 90 restaurants worldwide, ranging from fine dining to casual chains in Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East. Some of the most famous are the three-Michelin-starred Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London, the Bread Street Kitchen chain, and the Hell's Kitchen global chain, inspired by the TV show of the same name. The chef recently inaugurated the new fine dining restaurant Bonheur in Mayfair, London, under the supervision of Chef Matt Abé. As he told The Sunday Times, this new venture will be largely free of influencers: "Bonheur won't be swamped by TikTokers," he emphasized.
