Mitsotakis complains to Merz over Kovesi’s "obsessive" approach to Greece

Mitsotakis complains to Merz over Kovesi’s
Kovesi to depart European Public Prosecutor’s Office in October, succeeded by German prosecutor Andres Ritter

Well-informed sources report that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has allegedly intervened with his European counterparts, such as Macron and Friedrich Merz, expressing his intense dissatisfaction with the "aggressive" and obsessive approach of European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kovesi toward Greece. The country is currently ranked as the second-highest nation for fraud involving EU funds (with damages totaling 2.68 billion euros) and faces 175 active investigations, including the OPEKEPE case involving former ministers and party officials. It remains unclear whether this intervention is linked to the relative delay of the second case file regarding OPEKEPE; however, it is noted that Kovesi will depart from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office in October and will be succeeded by Andres Ritter, who is a German prosecutor.
