Trump persists: New lawsuit against Wall Street Journal over Epstein following the rejection of the $10 billion claim

Trump is once again seeking billions of dollars in damages in the Epstein case

The President of the US, Donald Trump, has filed a new defamation lawsuit against the publisher of the Wall Street Journal, after a federal judge dismissed his previous $10 billion claim, which was related to reports about the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The revised lawsuit once again seeks billions of dollars in damages from Dow Jones & Company, its parent company News Corp, News Corp chairman emeritus Rupert Murdoch, CEO Robert Thomson, and two journalists. Unlike the initial filing, the new complaint attempts to establish the existence of "actual malice" more directly, arguing that the defendants proceeded with the publication despite Donald Trump's repeated denials.

Judge Darrin Gayles had dismissed the original lawsuit in April, ruling that Trump had failed to sufficiently prove the existence of actual malice. The article in The Wall Street Journal stated that a birthday album prepared for Epstein's 50th birthday included a letter bearing President Trump’s name next to a crude/vulgar drawing, something Trump denied having written himself.
