The Kingdom of Denmark is in a state of high alert, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen launching a fierce attack against Washington. The Danish leader made it clear that the American threat to annex Greenland has not subsided, describing a historic rift between the two NATO allies.
"Fundamental disagreement" between USA and Denmark
Mette Frederiksen was categorical in her statements, confirming that Donald Trump's desire to place the strategic island under American control remains alive. Specifically, she emphasized: "There is a fundamental disagreement because the American ambition to take control of Greenland remains fully intact. It is certainly a serious situation, and therefore we will continue our efforts to prevent the realization of this scenario." These statements follow the allegations of Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who, after his meeting at the White House, spoke of an overt intention to "conquer" the region.
Military mobilization and European shield
Copenhagen is not limiting itself to words. Denmark has already dispatched military reinforcements to Greenland, while securing the support of several European countries that are sending military aid to bolster the Kingdom's sovereignty. The Prime Minister underlined the importance of this mobilization: "It was not an easy meeting, and I must thank the two ministers (of Denmark and Greenland), who clearly highlighted the kingdom's position and responded to the American statements. There is consensus within NATO that an enhanced presence in the Arctic is essential for European and North American security."
The Arctic as a battlefield
Mette Frederiksen welcomed the contribution of allies in joint maneuvers in and around Greenland, noting that Denmark has invested significantly in new military capabilities. The region is now transforming into a dangerous arena of geopolitical confrontation, with Europe rallying against the ambitions of Donald Trump, who appears determined to redraw the borders of the Arctic Circle.
