With the involvement of CIA and Mossad the protests in Northern Iran turned into unrest – Trump message: We will intervene
The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces issued a statement declaring that the Iranian army will not allow any harm to the Islamic Republic

The protests in Iran, which began due to dissatisfaction with the economic situation, but are covertly supported by the American CIA and the Israeli Mossad, have begun to escalate into riots and pogroms in the northeastern part of the country, reports the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
“On the evening of Friday 2 January 2026, a local protest by Iranian citizens took place in the city of Borjnurd (in the province of North Khorasan in northeastern Iran) due to fluctuations in the exchange rate of the rial.
In several areas, the demonstrators abandoned the submission of economic demands and proceeded to pogroms,” the statement said.

Death to Khamenei

It is noted that the number of participants in the riots did not exceed 100, they blocked traffic lanes, disrupting circulation.
According to Tasnim, armed groups of fighters took to the streets of the city of Serbala in the western province of Ilam.
Footage published by the agency shows gunfire from automatic weapons, accompanied by chants of “Death to Khamenei!”.
Meanwhile, the Iranian news agency Fars notes that the number of peaceful demonstrations has been decreasing since the morning of Friday 2/1/2026, with the demonstrations taking on a clearly political character.
The demonstrators have begun clashing with the police and are increasingly shouting anti government and pro monarchist slogans.
The agency reports that the unrest is organized by small groups of people armed with blades, firearms, or Molotov bombs, who attack administrative and public buildings, including mosques.

They burned the Iranian flag

Such incidents have been recorded in the northern part of the country, in the Iranian capital Tehran and in Karaj, where, according to Fars, demonstrators burned the Iranian flag and threw stones at passersby, shouting “Death to the dictator!” and “This is not the last battle, Pahlavi will return!”.

The background of the incidents

In late December, protests erupted in Iran over the devaluation of the local currency.
The main trigger was the sharp fluctuations in the exchange rate and their impact on wholesale and retail prices.
Videos of demonstrators in Tehran and in other cities appeared on social media.
After this, the head of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Farzin, resigned.
By presidential decree on 31 December, Abdolnaser Hemmati assumed his duties.
Iran is facing high inflation.
The rial is weakening rapidly, reaching historic low levels against the dollar several times in recent months.
Before the withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear agreement in May 2018, the unofficial value of the dollar was approximately 50.000 rials.
Now, the dollar is trading at 1,4 million rials on the open market.
Iran is facing high inflation (according to the Central Bank of Iran, the annual inflation rate has reached 38,9%) and the rial is weakening rapidly.

Trump: Do not kill peaceful people… we will intervene

The message of US President Trump regarding the readiness of the United States to provide assistance to demonstrators in Iran violates the UN Charter and international law and incites violence against Iranian citizens, stated the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Trump stated that if Iran “kills peaceful demonstrators”, the United States will rush to help these people and is ready to take action.
“This irresponsible stance, which represents an aggressive and illegal approach adopted by the United States toward the Iranian people, constitutes not only a blatant violation of the fundamental principles and rules of the United Nations Charter and international law, respect for the national sovereignty of countries, but also incitement to violence and terrorist attacks against Iranian citizens,” the announcement on Telegram of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs states.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminded the UN Security Council of the organization’s responsibility to safeguard peace and security from the aggressive unipolarity of Washington and stressed that the Iranians will not allow anyone to maliciously intervene in their dialogue aimed at resolving their problems.
The ministry noted that it considers the threatening anti Iranian statements of the US administration to be consistent with the policy of Israel for escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
The ministry also stated that Iran’s response to any aggression against it will be “immediate, decisive, and comprehensive” and stressed that responsibility for the consequences of destabilization in the region will rest exclusively with Washington.

The army will intervene

Earlier, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces issued a statement declaring that the Iranian army will not allow any harm to the Islamic Republic or to the security of its people.
It noted that if the “enemies of Iran” make another mistake, they will receive a stronger and more destructive response than before.
