Bali fuel chaos as gas sold in bottles on the street
Scenes of unprecedented hardship are unfolding in Bali, Indonesia, where a severe gasoline shortage has triggered massive queues at gas stations, traffic congestion, and disruptions to the movements of residents and tourists

Bali is facing serious fuel supply problems, with many parts of the island recording shortages in Pertalite and Pertamax gasoline supplied by the state-owned energy company Pertamina.
According to reports on October 13, 2026, several gas stations have exhausted their stocks, while long queues of cars and motorcycles form at those that still have fuel.
The situation is causing particular difficulties for residents who use their vehicles daily for work, as well as for tourists who have rented motorcycles to travel around the island.

In some cases, drivers are forced to visit several different gas stations until they locate available gasoline.
The shortages have triggered a domino effect of problems, as queues occupy portions of the road network and make fuel transport even more difficult.

Gasoline in plastic bottles - The incredible sight on the streets

The fuel shortage has led many drivers to seek alternative refueling methods.
In the Ubud area, a Russian visitor, Alexander, described to Gazeta.Ru the difficulties he faced trying to fill his motorcycle's tank.
According to his testimony, some gas stations were closed, while others operated without fuel.
He noted that street vendors were selling fuel in bottles along roads, even near local coffee shops.
However, even these quantities were not easy to find.
Alexander claimed that he had to drive for about four hours across Ubud and surrounding areas until he located just two points selling gasoline.
Even then, the quantity he managed to purchase was only enough to fill half his motorcycle's tank.
Selling gasoline in makeshift containers creates additional safety concerns, especially when proper storage and transport standards for flammable materials are not observed.

Woman collapsed waiting for gas - Ambulance required

An incident in the Badung regency illustrates the intensity of the situation.
According to local media outlet DetikBali, a woman lost consciousness on October 13 while waiting for hours in a queue at a gas station.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. near a pump at the Latu gas station.
Police officers and workers rushed to assist her, and an ambulance was subsequently called.
The woman was transported to a local medical center, where her condition had already improved, according to a police spokesperson.
Initial assessments attributed the fainting spell to exhaustion from hours of waiting.
The incident highlights the impact a prolonged supply crisis can have, particularly when citizens remain exposed to weather conditions for hours.
