The Israeli army has already drawn up a detailed plan for a new large scale ground operation in the Gaza Strip, as revealed by the newspaper Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing classified sources from the leadership of the armed forces.
The reason for the accelerated development of the new war plan is intelligence information indicating that Hamas is restoring its military capabilities at a rapid pace.
According to the report:
1) Fighters of the organization are repairing the destroyed network of underground tunnels, preparing for a new round of clashes.
2) Israel believes that the organization has found a new source of revenue, which allows it to regularly pay the salaries of its armed members.
Israeli sources warn sternly: if Hamas attempts to violate its commitments to surrender its weapons, the army will force it to do so by the force of arms.
The new operation in the Gaza Strip is scheduled for March 2026, according to the newspaper Times of Israel on Saturday 10 January 2025.
An Israeli official told the newspaper that the operation is expected to be carried out toward Gaza City, with the aim of expanding Israeli control within the Strip beyond the current “yellow line.”
Awaiting approval from Trump
A diplomat from an Arab country also told the Times of Israel that Israel would not be able to launch this operation without the approval and support of the United States.
Washington, he added, is still trying to maintain the fragile ceasefire established in Gaza in October 2025 and to move forward to the second phase of the peace plan for the Strip, which provides for the disarmament of the militias of the Palestinian organization Hamas.
At the same time, the diplomat noted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, although cooperating with Washington to maintain the ceasefire, does not believe in the success of the disarmament of Hamas, and for this reason has ordered the armed forces to prepare contingency plans.
At the same time, Israel is on the highest level of alert amid information about possible American strikes against Iran.
Despite the tension, Tel Aviv signals that it does not wish to become directly involved in the internal affairs of Iran, which is being shaken by massive anti government demonstrations.
However, the activity in the Mediterranean Sea and the wider region shows that a generalized conflict is hanging by a thread.
The threat of a new operation in the Gaza Strip, combined with the impending United States strike on Iran, is creating an explosive cocktail that threatens to blow global security apart.
