Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, was killed following a car explosion earlier this morning, December 22, 2025, in a Moscow suburb.
The announcement was made by Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for the Russian Investigative Committee (SK RF). According to the ongoing inquiry:

Time & Location: The incident occurred on the morning of December 22 on Yasenevaya Avenue.

The Device: An explosive mechanism was placed underneath the vehicle and detonated while the General was inside.

Outcome: Sarvarov succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The case has been officially opened under Article 105 of the Penal Code (murder committed in a publicly dangerous manner) and Article 222.1 (illegal trafficking of explosives).
"The investigation is considering various versions of the murder. One of them involves the organization of the crime by the Ukrainian intelligence services," stated Petrenko.
Authorities are currently interrogating witnesses and analyzing CCTV footage from the Yasenevaya Avenue area to identify those responsible for planting the device.
