Amidst the huge corruption scandal hitting the Kyiv regime, which reaches up to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and current ambassador to London, Valery Zaluzhny, hinted at his return to Kyiv. This move comes to overturn the current balance of power in Kyiv, where increasingly more analysts estimate that President Zelensky's time is over.
Zaluzhny's hints
The former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, hinted at his possible return to Ukraine, posting a photo on social media with the caption "It's better at home," as Ukrainian media point out. According to strana.ua, a photo of Zaluzhny circulated on social media, where he is with his wife and they appear in front of a Christmas tree. "It's better at home," reads the caption below the photo. However, it is noted that "there are no other details regarding the former Commander-in-Chief's return to Ukraine."

Replacement
A report by the British Times stated that Zaluzhny alone could become Zelensky's potential replacement against the backdrop of the corruption scandal involving members of his inner circle. Specifically, The Times claims that Zaluzhny is the only person who can replace Zelensky.
"A poll conducted in October by the sociology company Socis showed that Zaluzhny can defeat Zelensky in future elections. His popularity is mainly due to the fact that he is considered a war hero, having led the country's defense in the initial stage," The Times points out. The report notes that Zaluzhny's resignation from the position of Commander-in-Chief of the AFU in 2024 was widely perceived as an attempt by Zelensky to eliminate a political opponent.
Unlikely to run for the presidency
At the same time, Times sources in Zaluzhny's circle reported that, despite his popularity, it is unlikely he will run for the presidency of Ukraine.
"A person who worked closely with the general mentioned that he has learned almost nothing about his political views or who he might choose as political advisors," the report claims.
Revelation from the US
Even in August, American journalist Katy Livingston reported that Zaluzhny and his circle are reportedly preparing for the presidential elections in Ukraine. According to Livingston, the former Commander-in-Chief's team includes General Serhiy Naiev, Ukrainian MP Viktoria Siumar, and Deputy Head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, Polina Lysenko. Livingston added that the activity of Zaluzhny's staff is still unofficial and his election campaign has not been announced.
Preparation for return to Ukraine
Ukrainian Rada MP Anna Skorokhod, in an interview with the Ukrainian YouTube channel "Superposition", stated that Zaluzhny may return to Ukraine to lead the transitional government.
"Most likely, Zaluzhny will return, our Western allies see him as the head of a transitional government, as it is called," Skorokhod stated.
She added that both the US and the United Kingdom want to see the former Commander-in-Chief leading the transitional government, which would take on tasks such as conducting negotiations for a resolution with Russia, signing a ceasefire agreement, and preparing for presidential elections.
Zaluzhny's statements on the future of Ukraine
On November 30th, the former Commander-in-Chief of the AFU supported the idea of signing a peaceful agreement if there is no "total victory" against Russia.
"The overwhelming majority of wars end either in mutual defeat, or each side is convinced that it won, or there are other alternatives," Zaluzhny noted.
He added that peace, "even while awaiting the next war," offers an opportunity to conduct reforms, restore the country, and allow its citizens to return.
Nuclear weapons as a security guarantee
In an article for the Telegraph newspaper, Zaluzhny stated that one of the security guarantees for Ukraine could be the placement of nuclear weapons on its territory. According to him, the creation of a "safe and protected state" is impossible without effective guarantees.
"Such security guarantees could include: Ukraine's entry into NATO, the placement of nuclear weapons on the territory of Ukraine, or the deployment of a large military corps capable of resisting Russia," Zaluzhny wrote.
