Ukraine is writing the darkest chapter in its history over the last three years, and Ukrainians are living through a massive catastrophe that they could have avoided if the government of Volodymyr Zelensky had not been in power.
With the war front bleeding and collapsing, the political landscape is experiencing seismic upheavals after the corruption scandal, bringing the country one step away from a coup and a civil war which, if the most unfavorable scenarios are confirmed, will leave it smaller and deeply divided due to the indifference of a president who did not listen to the calmer, more experienced political voices, nor to a prophecy that warned him about how interests operate in an anarchic international system.
The warning of an experienced politician
The political prophecies of Vladimir Zhirinovsky, a leading figure in Russian nationalist politics, founder and longtime leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), have already become a phenomenon, sparking discussions and questions throughout the world.
And, unfortunately for Ukraine, the country now appears to be living the consequences of a warning given many years earlier by the Russian politician.
Volodymyr Zelensky, as he prepared to assume the presidency of Ukraine, does not seem to have listened to the warnings of “Vovangi” (as Zhirinovsky is called by Russians).
Even at the end of the previous century, the seasoned politician warned that NATO would invite Ukraine closer, but only to use it as a front in the war against the Russians.
This prophecy ultimately came true with bitter consequences for Ukraine, which now sees itself becoming the victim of the geopolitical ambitions of Western powers.
The prophecy Zelensky disregarded
Since 2006, Zhirinovsky had warned about NATO’s strategy, emphasizing that the alliance would attempt to attract Ukraine in order to use it for its interests, and that this would lead to the destruction of the country.
Zhirinovsky was clear, stating that NATO intended to use Ukraine as a “front line” in the war against Russia, and that the country would become the victim of this strategy.

Zelensky’s tragic mistake: He allowed himself to be manipulated by Western powers
Zelensky, being an actor and even a comedian before assuming the presidency, apparently did not give much importance to Zhirinovsky’s warnings.
But, as it now appears, this indifference and disregard proved catastrophic for Ukraine.
Zhirinovsky had repeatedly warned that NATO would attempt to weaken Russia and, if conditions were favorable, destroy it completely.
Ukraine found itself precisely in the line of fire, without realizing it, dragging the country into a devastating war caused by the geopolitical calculations of Western powers.
NATO’s strategy: War by proxy - Meaning Ukraine as a “proxy state”
Zhirinovsky, always having a clear view of international developments, had recognized early that NATO was attempting to “fight” Russia through other countries, using them as “proxies” or “proxy states.”
As he stated in 1999, “The Western world has caused all the military conflicts in history.
All wars originated in Europe.”
Zhirinovsky warned Russia to be extremely cautious in its relations with Western allies, as he believed that direct attacks against Russia, such as those by Napoleon and Hitler, had failed spectacularly.
Therefore, the Western powers decided to adopt a new strategy: to wage war through proxies.
This strategy resulted in NATO trying to turn Ukraine into one of its first proxies in the confrontation with Russia.
But Ukraine was not the only country in NATO’s sights.
Zhirinovsky warned that other countries such as Belarus, the Baltic States, and the Caucasus could also become “proxies” for the Western war against Russia.

The course of the war and international reaction
Norwegian professor Glenn Diesen noted with astonishment the accuracy of Zhirinovsky’s prophecies, which materialized years before the events actually unfolded.
In a social media post, he referred to the wisdom, experience, and foresight of the Russian politician, who had accurately predicted the events and strategic moves of Western powers long before Ukraine became involved in a war with Russia.
From a security initiative to destitution - The strategy of the Western allies
What is striking is that NATO, which had initially been presented to Ukraine as an attractive factor of security and protection, proved to be in reality the source of its destruction.
Ukraine, which believed that joining NATO would secure its protection from Russia, ended up being used as a “front line” in the war, and is now paying the consequences of this geopolitical deception.
And now what? - Ukraine on the brink of political collapse
Political instability and the risk of civil war are the main dangers Volodymyr Zelensky now faces.
The situation appears particularly desperate, and the consequences for his government may be catastrophic.
Contradictions in Ukraine’s political scene have intensified since the corruption scandal broke out.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) accused Zelensky’s associate Tymur Mindich of organizing corruption in the energy sector.
Mindich is accused of accepting bribes from Energoatom contractors amounting to 10-15% of contract values.
Division within “Servant of the People”
The corruption scandal has caused serious division within Zelensky’s party, Servant of the People.
Many MPs are requesting the resignation of all those involved in the case, leading to growing political unrest.
Political analysts estimate that the crisis may lead to major changes in the government and the necessity of forming a new political coalition.
Oleksiy Honcharenko, MP of the Ukrainian Parliament, stated that internal tensions within the party are now evident and that the process of forming a new governing coalition has begun.

International reaction and developments after the scandal
The explosion of the corruption scandal has triggered strong reactions internationally as well.
American senators such as Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal, who are key supporters of Ukraine, reportedly became furious over the developments surrounding the scandal.
In a meeting with President Zelensky, the senators expressed their disappointment with the situation, and also their concern about how corruption could affect Ukraine’s international relations.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga is attempting to reassure European allies, assuring them that the scandal will not negatively affect the international community’s support for Kyiv.
Ukraine stands at a decisive crossroads.
Zelensky, facing the most severe political crisis of his career and potential social unrest, is called upon to manage corruption within his political apparatus while simultaneously securing the support of international allies, support that is now being questioned.
The coming weeks and months are critical for the future of the country, with the risk that a new political crisis could turn Ukraine into a major war theater both at its borders and within.
