Russia handed over 1,000 bodies of fallen servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to Ukraine; Moscow received 30 bodies of fighters.
Moscow and Kyiv exchanged the bodies of fallen soldiers, as reported by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, citing a source from the negotiating team.
"Today, within the framework of the Istanbul agreements, Russia handed over 1,000 bodies of fallen servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to Ukraine," the agency's interlocutor stated.
For its part, Moscow received 30 bodies of fighters.
The previous exchange took place on October 23, when Russia handed over 1,000 bodies and received 31 in return.
Since the beginning of the year, the countries have held a series of meetings in Istanbul: May 16, June 2, and July 23. During the last meeting, the sides agreed to continue the exchanges of wounded and sick soldiers.
Moscow expressed its willingness to hand over to Kyiv 3,000 more bodies of fallen servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and proposed exchanging prisoners in a number of at least 1,200 from each side.
At that time, Russia also proposed the creation of three working groups on political, humanitarian, and military issues, but Ukraine did not respond to this proposal.
Since then, the negotiation process remains on hold.
