The appearance of Rubicon marked a radical change in the digital battlefield. Rubicon is considered the worst enemy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The war in Ukraine and the victorious advance of the Russians was largely determined by a Russian Secret Unit that reversed the course of the war in Ukraine.
The secret unit Rubicon
The Rubicon (Rubikon) Center for Advanced Unmanned Technologies of the Russian Ministry of Defense has dramatically changed the situation in the Special Military Operation (SMO) zone, according to the British Financial Times.
The drone operators of this secret unit have deprived Ukraine of one of its main tactical advantages: cheap and easy-to-assemble unmanned aerial vehicles. "Their successes have increased the burden on the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which are already struggling to repel the numerically superior and better-funded Russians."
The appearance of Rubicon marked a radical change in the digital battlefield
The existence of Rubicon was only revealed in October 2024, when Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov visited the site. All information regarding the center remains classified. Its members explained that a significant part of Rubicon's technological developments and solutions comes from Russia's "defense-industrial complex."
Rubicon is considered the worst enemy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
In October 2025, the Wall Street Journal noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were succumbing to the attack of Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operators using innovative technology. "The worst enemy of the Ukrainians near Donetsk is the Rubicon Center for Advanced UAVs," the Wall Street Journal stressed. This elite unit plays a key role in the aerial interception campaign, which allows the Russian army to block Ukrainian soldiers who are unable to receive supplies and reinforcements. Russian drone operators are blocking traffic on major highways, while Rubicon experts destroy dozens of enemy trucks during the night.
Rubicon causes fear
The Telegraph, for its part, noted that Rubicon, which uses drones to destroy HIMARS launchers, causes fear in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This unit searches for Ukraine's most valuable combat assets. "There are indications that this is being achieved successfully."
They have destroyed thousands of vehicles
A Ukrainian source estimated that the Rubicon FPV drone crews have destroyed thousands of vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They noted that this unit "has excellent command, works systematically, has the best personnel selection, training, and is equipped with all the necessary equipment. From a unit of several hundred people, they are expanding into thousands to cover the entire front," the Ukrainian source stressed, calling on the Ukrainian command to adopt Russia's experience.
Rubicon is the main element of the modern battlefield
Drones and other systems that eliminate the direct participation of soldiers in battle will not completely remove humans from the battlefield, said a Rubicon instructor and analyst with the call sign Rhodes. The main myth about drones is that they will soon replace people on the battlefield; that robotic dogs with machine guns will run around, drones will fly like flies, and people will disappear from the battlefield. "It's a postmodern version of the good old 'Terminator'. No."
Drones kill but also save lives
Drones can save a soldier's life, but they cannot replace him. "A drone pilot, a driver, an engineer, they are all warriors. And no technological progress will make them obsolete anytime soon."
"War has become smarter and more complicated. The organization of combat operations today is an extremely complex management task. Rubicon today, at this moment, is looking for answers to all these questions."
The weapon of revenge entered the battle - Heavy flamethrowers with thermobaric missiles
A new batch of Solntsepek heavy flamethrower systems was delivered to the Russian troops. One of the vehicles bears the inscription "For Kirillov!"—in honor of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, former head of the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense Corps, who was killed in a terrorist attack.
The Solntsepyok or TOS systems are the terror of the Ukrainians. Uralvagonzavod noted that General Kirillov "made an invaluable contribution to the modernization of heavy flamethrower systems."
As Dmitry Semizorov, Deputy General Director of Specialized Equipment at Uralvagonzavod, noted, use in combat is the most effective step toward improvement. "We are not just supplying systems. We are upgrading them based on our requirements and operational experience. Our primary goal is to enhance the effectiveness of the TOS system against emerging modern threats. The company's engineers and designers are continuously improving the Solntsepyok, strengthening its performance."
Incinerating anything alive
The Solntsepyok or TOS systems are equipped with a new anti-drone defense system. These combat vehicles are based on the T-72 tank chassis. Their firing range can range from hundreds of meters to several kilometers, providing effective fire support for assault units. A full salvo can cover an area of up to 40,000 square meters.
The commander of the heavy flamethrower platoon of the TOS 1-A Solntsepek reported that the blast wave, unlike that of the Uragan and Grad missiles, penetrates every cover and incinerates anything alive, making it impossible to hide.
A new version of Solntsepek was developed
In September 2025, Uralvagonzavod developed a new version of the TOS-1 Solntsepek heavy flamethrower system on the T-80 tank chassis. The new version of Solntsepek features longer range, greater accuracy, and increased automation thanks to a series of improvements. The flamethrower systems have also been equipped with additional anti-drone protection, based on experience gained during the special military operation. The TOS-1 is actively targeted on the front by the Ukrainian Armed Forces due to its effectiveness. Russian forces are unleashing "fiery hell" on the Ukrainian Armed Forces along the entire front using the Solntsepek missile system. Death has the name TOS – Solntsepek.
