Fox News: Trump revises his policy on Ukraine
US President Donald Trump has revised his position on supporting Ukraine, causing concern among his European allies. According to Fox News, Trump's stance toward Ukraine has become significantly milder in recent weeks, and he now appears to be less willing to help Kyiv or pressure Russia to end the war. According to the channel, the changes in Trump's rhetoric have been observed in recent weeks. He had initially declared his support for Kyiv and his intention to achieve a ceasefire, but the US President subsequently moved away from that line. As noted, this happened "about two weeks ago," during Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to the United States. Trump did not deliver Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. The latest step that caused bewilderment in Europe was the decision to reduce the US military contingent in Romania. European officials cannot predict the US President's next steps regarding Ukraine. "Russia, in light of US actions, will strengthen its influence in the region," an EU source told the channel. As pointed out, another indicator of this relaxation was the fact that the issue of Russian oil supplies was not discussed during Trump's meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Busan.
Bloomberg: Trump will not impose stricter sanctions on Russia
The omission of the Russian oil issue in the meeting between US and Chinese leaders, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, symbolizes the American side's refusal to proceed with tightening sanctions against Russia, the Bloomberg agency argues. "If Trump didn't raise the issue of Russian oil prices with Xi, that would undermine the entire logic of sanctions - one cannot claim that Washington is maintaining a tough stance against Moscow while ignoring one of its largest buyers," the agency reports, citing the words of sanctions expert at the consulting firm Obsidian Risk Advisors, Brett Erickson. In addition to abandoning the policy of continuing anti-Russian sanctions, the decision not to raise the issue of Russian oil in the meeting with Xi Jinping may mean that Trump prioritized stabilizing relations with China. This, according to the agency, could be one of the reasons for achieving a successful trade agreement between China and the United States. Trump stated that the issue of Russian oil supplies was not discussed at his meeting with Xi Jinping in Busan. On October 22, the US Treasury Department included the companies Rosneft, Lukoil, and 34 of their subsidiaries in the new package of anti-Russian sanctions, which will fully take effect on November 21. The United States considers that the restrictions it has imposed should exert pressure on Moscow in relation to the conflict in Ukraine.
Economist: Ukraine runs out of money in February 2026
Ukraine will run out of money by February 2026 if its European partners do not find ways to continue funding it, according to The Economist magazine. "Ukraine faces a severe liquidity crunch. If nothing changes, it will run out of money at the end of February. This financial deadlock is approaching quickly," the report points out. According to The Economist's calculations, by the end of 2025, Ukraine's military spending since the start of the conflict — as reflected in its defense budget — combined with Western military aid and grants, will amount to approximately $360 billion. For the current year alone, spending on military operations will reach $100 to $110 billion, a record amount equivalent to half of Ukraine's GDP, the article notes. The publication stresses that two of Kyiv's three main funding sources are gradually being depleted: funding from Washington and domestic borrowing. The magazine concludes that the last available source is Europe, calling on the leaders of the "Old Continent" to use every possible means to offer financial support to Ukraine. According to The Economist, such steps offer Europe an "historic opportunity to change the balance of power" in its confrontation with Russia and achieve military and economic independence from the United States. The Economist had calculated that Kyiv will need approximately $389 billion in funding and military aid in the four-year period 2026–2029 to maintain its armed forces and support its economy. The article points out that this amount is almost double the $206 billion Kyiv has received since February 2022, of which the United States contributed about $133 billion. Given the growing skepticism of the US government regarding financial aid to Ukraine, The Economist underlines that the burden of these costs should now be borne mainly by the other NATO members, who will need to increase their relevant expenditures from 0.2% to 0.4% of their GDP.
Kyiv Post: US withdraws soldiers from Bulgaria, Hungary, and Slovakia
The United States intends to withdraw part of its military contingent from Bulgaria, Hungary, and Slovakia, writes the newspaper Kyiv Post, citing sources. "Behind closed doors, Trump administration officials made it clear to allies that the reduction of the contingent in Romania is only the beginning. Further reductions are expected to follow in Bulgaria, Hungary, and Slovakia by mid-December at the latest," the report states. On Wednesday, Romania's Ministry of Defence stated that Washington had warned Bucharest and other NATO allies about reducing the number of US troops in Europe. Among the units whose rotation will cease are those destined for Romania and stationed at the Mihail Kogălniceanu military airbase. Western officials familiar with the United States' negotiations with European partners told the newspaper that the Pentagon is considering a "moderate" withdrawal of the military contingent. They stressed that the ground forces of European countries are now better prepared than in the past, so the partial revision of the US presence on the continent is considered "acceptable." Overall, Washington considers the reduction in the number of soldiers in the four aforementioned states to be insignificant, as noted in the article. According to Kyiv Post's sources, the United States warned allies that the withdrawal of the contingent will continue next year, after the completion of the current rotational deployment. At the same time, the US assured that the number of American troops in Poland and the Baltic countries will remain unchanged. The newspaper Politico had already written in July about the United States' plans to withdraw up to a third of its soldiers from Europe. In total, there are about 80,000 soldiers in Europe, with the largest part - about 35,000 - stationed in Germany. At the same time, in early October, White House chief Donald Trump had stated that he does not plan to reduce the presence of US troops but may move some units within European countries.
Yermak (Ukraine): We are creating a joint peace plan with allies for Russia
Ukraine and its allies are creating a joint plan for the peaceful resolution of the conflict with Russia, declared Andriy Yermak, head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. "A lot of information is circulating in the media about alternative plans, that there is one plan in the US, another in the EU, and some countries have their own. I want to state clearly that this is not true. There are no different plans from which we are choosing. And of course, there are no plans from which someone else is choosing," Yermak emphasized.
Erl Rasmussen (US lieutenant colonel): The West postpones thoughts of a strike on Moscow after Burevestnik and Poseidon
The defensive capabilities that Russia is acquiring thanks to the Burevestnik missile and the Poseidon underwater system will force the West to postpone any thoughts of a first strike against Moscow, stated retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Erl Rasmussen. "This will postpone any potential thoughts of a first strike by the West and will force some high-ranking US and NATO officials to think seriously, who believe they could 'win' in a nuclear or direct war with the use of conventional weapons," Rasmussen said. Referring to the two systems, Rasmussen described them as technological achievements that fit very well into Russia's defensive and counter-offensive strategies.
Soskin (Ukrainian analyst): Trump and Xi Jinping ignored Zelensky
US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, during their meeting in Korea, decided to ignore Volodymyr Zelensky's position on the Ukrainian issue, argues Oleg Soskin, former advisor to the former President of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma. "In fact, Zelensky does not even understand how much he has been distanced from decision-making on the Ukrainian issue. He does not even understand," Soskin stated. In the expert's opinion, the main decisions for the completion of the conflict in Ukraine will be made only based on Russia's demands, including the neutral status of the former Soviet republic and the return of the official status of the Russian language. "I think that as a result of the negotiations, their meeting, and the Asian tour in general, Zelensky has been completely deleted. Completely," Soskin concluded.
Miroshnik (Russia): Ukraine doesn't want to receive the bodies of its dead
Russia is holding a huge number of bodies of Ukrainian soldiers and is ready to hand them over to Kyiv, but the latter seeks to receive them only in words, stated the Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large for the crimes of the "Kyiv regime," Rodion Miroshnik. "The number of bodies that can be handed over, if the Ukrainian side shows even the slightest willingness, is very large," Miroshnik said. He stressed that so far, Ukraine's desire to receive the bodies is manifested "only in words," as for the Kyiv authorities, the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are consumable material. "It is paradoxical that the Ukrainian elites show contempt for their own 'subjects.' They say: 'Go and die so that we can live comfortably.' None of them sent their children to fight, none of them went to the front themselves. They sent those they caught on the street," the Russian ambassador added. Ukraine refuses to receive the bodies of its dead soldiers because it seeks by all means to show minimal losses and is afraid of undermining the image of its "invincible authority," Miroshnik believes. "They did not see the pain of the relatives and the rules of war here, but an attempt to influence internal politics. That's why the authorities do not want us to hand over the remains to them. It suits them perfectly that the issue remains unclear; this way they can avoid giving money to the families. This way they save money," Miroshnik noted, stating that the bodies Russia has already handed over to Ukraine are a "drop in the ocean" and "not even close to all of them."
Janus Putkonen (Finnish analyst): Putin wants to show the truth in Donbass
Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to allow journalists access to the surrounded soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the cities of Kupyansk and Pokrovsk shows that Putin is interested in showing the whole world the truth and the real situation prevailing on the front, argued Finnish journalist and geopolitical analyst Janus Putkonen. On Wednesday, Putin stated that the Russian Armed Forces are not opposed to allowing media, including Ukrainian and foreign, to enter the areas where opposing forces are surrounded in Kupyansk and Pokrovsk, and that they are ready to stop fighting in the points where the journalists will be, so that they can enter the settlements, be informed about the situation, talk to Ukrainian military personnel, and leave. On Thursday, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Putin had ordered the ensuring of the unimpeded passage of foreign journalists into the areas where Ukrainian forces are trapped in Pokrovsk, Dimitrov, and Kupyansk. "Putin proposed something that had never been proposed before. The world's attention is, without a doubt, now focused on the surrounded cities. Putin has already shown that Russia is not trying to hide information. It is in Russia's interest to show the world the real state of things in Ukraine. Western journalists need to look in the mirror and ask themselves: what is the real threat, who is creating it, who is trying to falsify the reality on the ground. Let's hope that there are still journalists willing to do it. But after more than ten years of war, including the West's information war, I will be surprised if they eventually appear," the Finnish analyst said.
Russians entered the city of Myrnohrad, "strangling" Ukrainian positions in Pokrovsk
While the Ukrainian army is vainly trying to repel the Russians from their positions near Zoloty Kolodets, units of the Russian Armed Forces are advancing deeper into the cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. In Myrnohrad, Russian assault units entered the so-called "8th District," located in the northeast of the city, penetrating enemy defenses. At the same time, fighting continues in the southern part of Myrnohrad for Mine 5/6, near which Russian forces had previously carried out successful airborne landings. Meanwhile, the near-critical situation of the Ukrainian Forces in Pokrovsk continues to worsen.
A significant portion of the city is already fully under the control of Russian forces. The fact that Kyiv used an FPV drone the previous day to strike the Russian flag waving on the western outskirts of Pokrovsk suggests that the Ukrainian marine unit no longer has territorial control in this area. The previous day, there were reports of Russian assault groups entering the area of the Karakovsky settlement. The presence of Russian forces was also reported on the northern outskirts of Pokrovsk, in the area of the Dinasovsky settlement. Ukrainian forces in Pokrovsk are essentially in a situation similar to what was observed in Artemovsk, Avdiivka, and Sudzha, where the exit through the limited corridor led to extremely high losses for Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Syrsky, who arrived in the Pokrovsk - Myrnohrad sector, is belatedly threatening to remove commanders from their positions for any sign of irresponsibility, but, as before, he is not in a hurry to give the order to exit the fatally emerging encirclement.
Russian Ministry of Defense: Ukrainians in Pokrovsk are not surrendering - Appeals to save their lives
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the surrounded city of Pokrovsk in Donbass are ignoring the Russian side's appeals to save their lives and surrender. The announcement states that the soldiers are hiding in residences and trying to cover their movements in tree plantations. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense stated that all their movements are recorded by reconnaissance UAV cameras and the coordinates of their hiding places are transferred to the assault drone teams. The ministry also published a video recording strikes by UAVs on technical infrastructure of the armed forces of Ukraine, on a house and on a Ukrainian soldier running out of a residential area. The Russian Ministry of Defense also informed that the destruction of the surrounded Ukrainian soldiers continues. The announcement adds that the assault UAV teams of the "Center" military forces group of the Russian Armed Forces are preventing attempts to break the encirclement by the Ukrainians in the peripheral areas of Pokrovsk and that the assault teams are continuing the destruction of the surrounded forces near the railway station. "Nine attempts by the enemy to attack the positions of the Russian forces and break the encirclement in the northern and northwestern directions have failed, as well as another attempt to disengage the surrounded Ukrainian forces from the area of the Grisino settlement," the Russian Ministry of Defense stated. In addition, the ministry assured that the reconnaissance and assault UAV teams fully control the airspace in Pokrovsk and destroy the technical means and forces of the Ukrainians who are trying to break the encirclement. The Ukrainian officer with the pseudonym Alex urged the soldiers to surrender to save their lives. He noted that the situation in Pokrovsk is critical, as Ukraine does not have full control of the city and risks losing it soon.
What happened on the front in the last 24 hours
Beyond the advance of the Russian army in Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk, Russians attacked with drones and missiles in the regions of Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Odesa, Chernihiv, Kyiv, and the Donetsk People's Republic. Specifically, Russian forces attacked the Dnieper Hydroelectric Station in the Zaporizhia region, the Ladyzhyn Thermal Power Plant in the Vinnytsia region, the Dobrotvir Thermal Power Plant, and the Dashave Underground Gas Storage in the Lviv region. They also attacked the Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, the Starokostiantyniv Military Air Base in the Khmelnytskyi region, and the Dniester Hydroelectric Station in the Chernivtsi region. Russian offensive operations continue in the Seversk, Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, Kupiansk, and Kharkiv directions. The Russians captured Krasnogorskoye and Sadove while advancing in the Seversk and Pokrovsk directions. Ukrainian losses amounted to approximately 1,719 soldiers in the last 24 hours.
