The witch hunt in Germany is escalating, as lawmakers from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party stand accused of seeking to spy on behalf of Russia by submitting a series of inquiries on sensitive issues to the regional parliament of Thuringia, according to a Handelsblatt report published Wednesday.
Thuringia’s Interior Minister, Georg Maier, stated that members of the AfD had submitted 47 parliamentary questions related to critical infrastructure and other security matters.
“The impression is almost unavoidable that the AfD is working from a Kremlin order list, judging by the questions it submits,” Maier claimed, adding that the inquiries are being made “with increasing intensity and depth of detail.”
