Prominent restaurants in Mykonos and Athens, tax evasion of hundreds of millions of euros, alleged transactions running into millions with «Choriatiko» and organized crime in Greece, and three questions regarding personal handling... by Minister of Citizen Protection M. Chrysochoidis.
According to authoritative information from bankingnews (BN), in early July experienced top officers handling organized and financial crime... submitted to M. Chrysochoidis a complete dossier and a written recommendation for immediate intervention, aiming to investigate an alleged tax evasion «carousel» running into hundreds of millions of euros involving a well-known restaurant in Mykonos.
According to the same sources, the alleged «carousel» of companies is reported, among other things, to engage in fictitious financial dealings and transactions worth millions of euros with companies connected to «Choriatiko».
According to our sources, you rejected the proposed intervention within seconds, answering:
«Do not concern yourselves with this... Send it starting in September... to the AADE».
Is this true, Mr. Minister?
And if it is true, how did you evaluate such a dossier so quickly as to dismiss the written recommendation of the senior officers of your ministry?
The Economic Crime Investigation Subdirectorate of the DAOE has explicit jurisdiction to investigate organized financial offenses against the State, including tax infringements. Your referral to the AADE does not suffice, therefore... it obscures responsibilities and gives rise to a reasonable question: does it serve the investigation, or does it kick the can down the road to play for time?
Three questions that demand a personal answer
1. Did you receive the dossier and give orders not to conduct the proposed investigation?
Do you confirm or deny the written briefing by your officers in early July and the response attributed to you?
If you rejected the recommendation, what jurisdiction did you invoke and where was your justification recorded?
2. What exactly happened to the evidence in the complaint?
Which service evaluated it, was the competent prosecutor informed, and what actions were taken to protect the public interest?
If the dossier was forwarded to the tax authorities, when, to which authority, and under which protocol reference number?
3. Are there connections that must be disclosed? Is it true that a relative of yours maintains close ties with restaurant entrepreneurs in Mykonos?
If so, do these specific entrepreneurs have corporate or financial ties to businesses cited in the controversial file?
Was there any relevant communication or intervention directed to you or your office?
If it is confirmed that, knowing the contents of the dossier, you obstructed its lawful investigation, an issue of personal political accountability arises.
Mr. Chrysochoidis, if the information is inaccurate, deny it specifically.
If it is accurate, present the justification and official path of the dossier. Since the order was yours, the explanation must also be yours.
The dossier can be forwarded. Political accountability for its handling is not forwarded along with it!!
BN holds all the evidence regarding the megaton scandal of Mykonos.
