The airport of Nuremberg in Germany was placed on alert, with flights temporarily suspended due to an unspecified aviation incident.
In fact, authorities mobilized shortly before the scheduled landing of an aircraft originating from Corfu.
Under close investigation are also reports by three pilots regarding the potential appearance of a drone in the airport area overnight.
The announcement on flight suspension
In more detail, in an announcement on its website, the airport did not further specify the cause of the incident, noting that an update would follow.
«We received a report of an unspecified aviation incident», police said in a post on platform X, adding that in the meantime the aircraft had landed safely in Nuremberg. «Investigations into the causes are underway».
According to the German newspaper Rheinische Post, police have cordoned off the airport.
Pilots reported possible drone appearance overnight
Police state that the incident took place after reports from three pilots, who «independently of each other reported seeing an object, possibly a drone», during takeoffs and landings.
The occurrences took place between 02:00 and 04:00 in the early morning hours of Tuesday (October 13, 2026), according to local police.
The border police department of Nuremberg airport launched an investigation into the reports, which «caused temporary disruptions to air traffic during the aforementioned time period».
Police mobilized, among other assets, a helicopter, but were unable to confirm the presence of the object.
The affected flight originated from Corfu
Police intervened shortly before the scheduled landing of an aircraft arriving from Corfu, according to German media.
A spokesperson for Nuremberg airport told Sky News that the aircraft affected by the incident landed «safely», confirming the earlier police update.
According to the flight tracking website FlightRadar24, the aircraft landed at 12:16, just one minute after its scheduled arrival time.
In fact, according to German media, Eurofighter fighter jets of the German Air Force had undertaken escorting the aircraft in German airspace, departing subsequently. According to the German air traffic control service, the fighter jets belong to the 74th Tactical Air Force Wing, based in Neuburg an der Donau, Bavaria. At that specific air base, two Eurofighter jets are on 24-hour alert every day in order to scramble immediately if needed.

This occurrence comes roughly two months after a drone carrying an explosive device was detected at Leipzig airport in Germany.
That airport suspended flights, while an explosive ordnance disposal robot was dispatched to examine an object near the southern runway. As the German Minister of the Interior stated at the time, the discovery of the drone, which was packed with explosives, demonstrated that it represents a new kind of «hybrid attack».
Germany had attributed responsibility for that incident to Russia, but the circumstances behind today's detection have not yet been clarified.
