The US trade deficit widened significantly in August, recording a notable increase compared to July and settling slightly above analyst expectations.
Specifically, the balance of trade deficit reached 105.6 billion dollars, compared to 92.8 billion dollars in the previous month.
Analysts had forecast that the trade deficit would widen to 102 billion dollars.
At the level of individual categories, the goods trade deficit stood at 136.57 billion dollars, while the services trade balance posted a surplus of 31 billion dollars.
Exports grew by 1.4%, reaching 315 billion dollars from 310.72 billion dollars in July. At the same time, imports rose by 4.3% to 420.75 billion dollars, from 403.55 billion dollars a month earlier.
According to Reuters, the US trade deficit with China also increased, reaching 18.4 billion dollars from 17.3 billion dollars in July.
