Russian diplomacy sounded the alarm regarding its mission in Greece, as Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree removing Andrei Maslov from the position of Ambassador of Russia to Greece, as noted in a report republished by osnmedia.ru on October 2.
The replacement for Andrei Maslov will be Yuri Gorlach.
«Andrei Mikhailovich Maslov is relieved of his duties as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Hellenic Republic. <...> Yuri Andreevich Gorlach is appointed», the document states.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin removed the head of Udmurtia, Alexander Brechalov, signing a relevant decree.
The decision was taken based on the resignation of Alexander Brechalov.

It has also been reported that Ivan Boyko, Deputy Chairman of the Krasnodar Regional Court, tendered his resignation.
He may face a lawsuit seeking the transfer of assets to the state, while the findings of a classified inquiry by federal agencies and complaints concerning the work of Ivan Boyko in Gelendzhik are cited as reasons for his departure.

Maslov departs, Gorlach arrives

Regarding our country, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved personnel changes in the diplomatic mission of the country in Athens.
Yuri Gorlach was appointed as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Hellenic Republic.
The relevant decree of the head of state was posted on the official legal information portal.
Under another presidential decree, Andrei Maslov, who had led the Russian diplomatic mission in Greece since 2014, was relieved of his diplomatic duties.

Both signed documents formally took effect on the date of their publication.
Previously, Yuri Gorlach served as head of the Department of Situation and Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Among the subjects he handled from this post was international cooperation in crisis and emergency situations.
In particular, Yuri Gorlach had conducted consultations on the matter with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

Who is the new ambassador of Russia in Athens

Yuri Andreevich Gorlach graduated in 1983 from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR and subsequently joined the diplomatic service.
During the period 1999-2003, he served as counselor at the Russian Embassy in Spain.
From 2005 to 2014, he served as Deputy Director of the Department of Pan-European Cooperation of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From July 2014 to January 2018, he served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to NATO, while from January 2018 to September 2021, he served as Acting Permanent Representative of Russia to NATO.
From October 1, 2021 to October 2, 2026, he was Director of the Department of Situation and Crisis Management Center of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From October 2, 2026, he is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Greece.
