Western efforts to isolate Russia and cancel Russian culture have failed, stated Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova in an interview with TASS ahead of the 12th St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures. "If we speak about a 'thaw,' we understand that attempts to cancel Russian culture and isolate the country have, naturally, failed. Regarding our forum, after 2022 we re-evaluated the approaches we followed even before the pandemic and even changed its name, highlighting the unifying role of Russia as a bearer of spiritual, cultural, and traditional values," said Golikova.
From small discussions to "cultural sovereignty"
Golikova noted that smaller-scale discussions held during previous iterations of the forum have evolved into broader deliberations surrounding the role of culture and the cultural sovereignty of states amid shifts in the international order. According to her, the new geopolitical realities have elevated the importance of cultural exchanges and the preservation of national cultural identity.
St. Petersburg Forum gets underway
The St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures will take place from September 24 to 26. The central theme of this year's event is "United Cultures – Shared Values," with the program featuring ten thematic sessions dedicated to culture, international cooperation, and cultural policy.
