The ruling "United Russia" party achieved an overwhelming victory in the Russian parliamentary elections. As announced by the head of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, Ella Pamfilova, after counting 95.18% of the voting protocols, United Russia may secure 355 seats in the State Duma for its ninth parliamentary session. If this forecast is confirmed by the final electoral results, then United Russia may form the largest parliamentary group in its history within the State Duma.
During the eighth parliamentary session (2021–2026), United Russia's parliamentary group numbered 310 deputies, during the seventh (2016–2021) 343, during the sixth (2011–2016) 238, during the fifth (2007–2011) 315, and during the fourth (2003–2007) 304. Securing a constitutional majority in the State Duma requires more than 300 seats. Despite the lack of meaningful alternatives to United Russia, the Kremlin presented the vote as an opportunity for citizens to express their view following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine and amidst ongoing economic difficulties.
The Russian news agency TASS also reported, citing the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, that more than 3.6 million citizens voted electronically. Voters included residents of four Ukrainian regions that Moscow annexed in 2022 — Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia — as well as residents of Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.
