A leading political figure revealed that there are serious indications that, among many issues to be examined by the next Parliament, will be the project and concession contracts of GEK TERNA. Almost all contracts involving GEK TERNA—referring to projects that have been executed or are currently underway, as well as the winning bids in concessions—are essentially against the public interest and at the expense of Greek taxpayers.
There is not a single major infrastructure project that ultimately did not come at the expense of Greek taxpayers. It is unthinkable, for example, that in Greece there are 174 toll stations across 2,300 kilometers of motorways. In fact, the European Public Prosecutor's Office will launch an investigation into whether and to what extent GEK TERNA management received preferential treatment by maintaining ties with government officials. We learn that such a complaint has already reached the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
Whether anything improper emerges is a matter of justice. However, we see that GEK TERNA is being scrutinized and will certainly find itself in the crosshairs of political confrontation… An overpriced stock bubble, heavily indebted, attempting to present itself as an investment opportunity. While the stock market aspect remains a matter of subjective approach—anyone who wishes can buy or sell this bubble—the issue regarding the European Public Prosecutor's Office and the investigations planned by politicians is objective.
