German police investigate suspected explosive device on train tracks in Treuchtlingen
German authorities located a suspicious object near a railway station in Treuchtlingen, Bavaria, which is being examined for the possibility of containing explosives

A new alarm sounded in Germany, just a few days after the incident with the drone at Leipzig airport.
Specifically, today (13/8/2026), authorities located a suspicious object near a railway station in Treuchtlingen, in Bavaria, which is being examined for the possibility of containing explosives. The police of the Middle Franconia region have launched a major operation, while the evacuation of buildings in the area has also proceeded.
Concurrently, railway traffic in Treuchtlingen has been temporarily suspended, while citizens have been urged to avoid the intersection of Alte Burgstrasse and Wettelsheimer Str.
German authorities are attempting to ascertain the nature of the object, with the evaluation of gathered evidence still ongoing. Although so far no scenario can be ruled out, the probability of the presence of explosives has led to the preemptive evacuation and suspension of traffic.

The drone at Leipzig airport

The incident comes just days after the alarm at Leipzig/Halle airport, where a suspicious drone was located which, according to German authorities, carried professional explosives and a detonator. The drone had been spotted flying near Ukrainian transport aircraft, causing the mobilization of workers. Police utilized a bomb disposal robot for its examination and determined that it carried an explosive device.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt had characterized the incident as particularly serious, noting that the drone crashing to the ground could have had severe consequences. According to him, the detonator had detached, a fact that prevented the activation of the explosive device upon impact.

The drone was an unthinkable Ukrainian provocation

However, the drone case raises serious questions as investigative authorities are reportedly examining even the possibility of a Ukrainian provocation, which could have been designed to appear as a Russian operation.
According to a report by the German newspaper Die Zeit, investigators do not rule out the scenario that a foreign state lies behind the incident.
Among the versions being examined is, according to the report, the one that wants Ukraine to have organized a provocation aimed at creating the impression that it was a Russian operation. The potential objective, always according to this specific scenario, would be to reinforce in German public opinion the sense of an immediate Russian threat and to increase support for even greater German involvement in the confrontation with Russia.
This dimension is exceptionally serious, as a confirmed Ukrainian operation on German soil could cause powerful political shocks and directly affect relations between Berlin, Kyiv, and Moscow.

The incident occurred on August 5, when a drone reportedly carrying explosives was located at Leipzig airport.
According to information published by the German Bild, a low-flying drone was observed in immediate proximity to a Ukrainian An-124 transport aircraft.
The investigation reportedly found later that the unmanned aerial vehicles found in the area carried a total of approximately 800 grams of explosive material.
The presence of explosives in one of Germany's most key aviation and cargo hubs transforms the case from a simple airspace violation into a matter of national security.
