As «proof» of this «threat», Israelis cite the flight of two Syrian Su-22 fighters within Syrian airspace itself — a self-evident act of sovereignty for any independent state.

In fact, a pair of Syrian Su-22 fighter-bombers, recently put back into service, was detected conducting flights over the northern and central parts of the country. This development is recorded about a year and a half after the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime and declarations by the Israeli military that it had completely neutralized the Syrian air force.
At the same time, Israeli intelligence determined that Damascus is recruiting new pilots and conducting intensive training flights with helicopters and trainer aircraft.
The... diplomatic trap
According to Israeli reports, two Arab states are considering concluding diplomatic or defense agreements with Tel Aviv, with the sole goal of lulling Israeli authorities' vigilance and removing unwanted controls.
After cultivating a false sense of security, they plan to launch a coordinated attack of massive scale, copying the tactics of Hamas, which for years projected an image of «moderation» before the October 7 strike.
Although reports do not name the two countries openly, one is considered certain to be Syria, while the second is speculated to be Iraq (or possibly Lebanon), as Egypt and Jordan already maintain peace treaties with Israel.

The new Islamist leadership of Syria, according to Israel, is conducting a skillful double game.
On one hand, it seeks peace talks with Israel to secure sanction relief, international legitimacy, and a cessation of Israeli airstrikes.
