Motor Oil returns to MSCI Standard Greece, Kri Kri joins Small Cap

The free float valuation of Motor Oil following consecutive historic highs, approaching $4 billion, secured its entry ticket

There was strong Greek market interest in the quarterly index review conducted by MSCI on Wednesday, August 12, as Motor Oil returned to the MSCI Standard Greece Index, from which it had been excluded in August 2024. As it appears, the free float valuation of Motor Oil following the consecutive historic highs it has recorded (approaching $4 billion) provided the entry ticket for its re-inclusion. At the same time, the stock of Kri Kri was added to the MSCI Small Cap Index.

No changes were made to Greek equities within the Micro Cap Index

Ten companies

It is noted that the MSCI Greece Standard Index now comprises ten companies: the four systemic banks (National Bank of Greece, Eurobank, Piraeus Bank, and Alpha Bank), along with PPC, OTE, Allwyn, Jumbo, GEK TERNA—which was included in the index in May 2026—and Motor Oil. The portfolio adjustments following the index restructuring, the so-called index rebalancing, will take place on August 31. A large number of foreign institutional investors benchmark against MSCI indices, and trading volume consistently surges on these key dates. During the previous rebalancing at the end of May, total trading volume exceeded €1 billion on the Athens exchange. The average daily trading volume on the Greek stock exchange stands at €337.3 million this year, while initial analyst estimates suggest that Motor Oil's entry into the MSCI Greece Index could generate demand for up to 5 million shares. It should be emphasized that on August 21, FTSE Russell will announce its new index composition, ahead of the official market upgrade of Euronext Athens launching one month later.
