Greek Patriots at the service of Erdogan – Saudi Arabia embraces Turkey, Gerapetritis is still trying to figure out what happened
Information regarding monthly reviews of the mission shows that the issue has begun to seriously concern the government
The issue of Greek Patriots in Saudi Arabia is beginning to acquire dimensions far greater than a simple military mission. Athens had presented the battery deployment as a move of strategic importance and as practical support for a major partner. Today, however, Riyadh has signed a defense agreement with Turkey and Pakistan, creating new realities that can hardly be ignored.

The paradox is obvious:

Greece continues to provide air defense coverage to Saudi Arabia at the exact same time that the latter strengthens its military relationship with Ankara. And thus the question now posed in Athens is very specific: what exactly is the strategic benefit for Greece from the continued presence of the Greek force?

Information regarding a monthly review of the mission shows that the issue has begun to seriously concern the government. An even greater cause for concern is the potential expansion of this new axis to include Egypt. If that happens, the geopolitical balance in the region shifts noticeably. And then the Patriots will not merely be a military issue. They will serve as a symbol of how quickly a "strategic partner" can shift and how difficult it is for foreign policy to adapt when developments outpace it.
