A nightmarish aquatic world, where water has the power to dissolve human skin in a matter of minutes, is revealed on the African continent.
Russian travel blogger Denis Zabelin, through his personal account Zhizn v dvizhenii, describes in chilling detail the deadly trap of the famous Lake Natron in Tanzania, sketching a scene of absolute terror.
Total flesh destruction and high-temperature hell
"Imagine a lake whose water can dissolve your skin in just two minutes, while its surface temperature reaches 60 degrees Celsius," warns Denis Zabelin, recording the extreme and dangerous conditions prevailing in the region.
Local myth held that birds petrified instantly in the air, but the scientific reality behind the phenomenon proves to be even more gruesome.
The deadly "mirror" trick and violent mummification
As the blogger reveals, the lake sets an invisible death trap for wildlife.
When calm weather prevails, the perfectly mirrored surface of the water confuses birds, which lose their orientation, mistake the sky's reflection for the real sky, and crash into the water at uncontrollable speed.
Subsequently, the extremely alkaline environment instantly dehydrates the tissues.
As decomposition bacteria are unable to survive in such conditions, the dead body does not decay, but simply dries up and is covered by a hard mineral shell, turning the victim into an eerie stone mummy.
Fiery red and the return to the nightmare
At the same time, Denis Zabelin dispels the myth that the lake's waters are permanently deep red, explaining that it is a periodic phenomenon.
The change in color is due to the explosive reproduction of cyanobacteria, which reach their peak when salt concentration hits its highest limit.
This bloody image is maintained for just two to three weeks at the peak of the dry season, namely from June to October.
