Oman called for the Strait of Hormuz to remain open and for there to be no obstacles to navigation, as Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi addressed a ministerial meeting in Manila, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.
"Vital maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, must remain open and accessible to navigation, without measures that would impede freedom of navigation and international trade flows", stated the minister, according to a post by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman on the platform X.
Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi also emphasized that maintaining open and safe maritime routes requires responsible cooperation both from coastal states and from all those who benefit from maritime trade routes.
As a model, he cited the existing cooperation in the Strait of Malacca and Singapore, which strengthens trust and establishes the principle of collective responsibility.
The minister further underlined that the Sultanate of Oman will continue to support and facilitate dialogue wherever possible, within the framework of its firm commitment to resolving disputes through diplomacy.
Oman, located on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, holds a strategic position at the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz and historically plays a mediating role in regional disputes, maintaining diplomatic relations both with the Arab states of the Gulf and with Iran.
