A Russian fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jet reportedly crashed in the Moscow region during a training flight, according to information transmitted by the Telegram channel Mash.
As reported, the pilot steered the aircraft away from populated areas before successfully ejecting, avoiding potential casualties on the ground.
The Su-57, developed by the Russian company Sukhoi, is Russia's most modern multirole fighter. It is designed for operations against aerial, ground, and naval targets, while standing out for its low-observability (stealth) characteristics, thanks to the use of composite materials and advanced radar-signature reduction technologies.
The first prototype of the Su-57 made its maiden flight in 2010, serial production began in 2019, and the first operational aircraft joined the Russian Aerospace Forces in 2020. In March 2026, testing of the two-seater version of the fighter also began.
What the Russian Ministry of Defense announced
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the aircraft crashed in an uninhabited area during a training flight. According to the official announcement, the pilot ejected in time and is out of danger, while no damage or casualties were recorded on the ground.
At the same time, it was clarified that the fighter carried no ammunition, while a technical malfunction is being examined as the most likely cause of the crash. The exact causes of the accident are being investigated by the competent military authorities.
