A "digital brain" on the battlefield - Russia: Maven Smart at the core of NATO – Ukraine, a testing ground

Moscow claims that the artificial intelligence platform will become the digital brain of the Alliance's operations

The digital military command system, Maven Smart System, which the Ukrainian armed forces are currently testing in the operations zone, is evolving into a key element of the command and control of NATO troops, according to a Russian military analyst who spoke to the Russian news agency TASS. Alexander Stepanov, a military expert at the Institute of Law and National Security of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, stated that the platform now constitutes one of the key pillars of the Alliance's digital military architecture. "The Maven Smart System is evolving into a key component of the command and control of NATO troops. The testing of the system is currently taking place in Ukraine. It is already being implemented in the armed forces of European countries and is essentially transforming into the core and supporting digital ecosystem that enables a unified information-sharing system and rapid response across almost all fronts and sectors, particularly in the direction of Russia," he noted.

A "digital brain" for the battlefield

According to Stepanov, one of the most important advantages of the platform is its ability to be integrated into militaries with different levels of technological capabilities. This, he argued, allows for the creation of common standards in military information management among different countries. The platform collects data from a large number of sources, primarily from radar systems, and then processes the information to produce analytical data that can be used for operational decisions. "A large volume of different types of data will be collected in real-time and aggregated into a single final analytical product, which will be used not only for planning operations with the capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces, but also for planning the use of all forces of the multinational force currently concentrated in the region of the Russian borders," he stated.

The information will reach NATO headquarters

The Russian expert claimed that all information collected in real-time and necessary for making operational decisions will be transferred to NATO headquarters in Belgium. According to him, the data will be made directly available to the supreme command of the Alliance, enhancing the capacity for coordination and rapid response. Moscow presents the development of such artificial intelligence systems as an indication of a new era in warfare, where superiority in data processing and decision-making speed can be a decisive factor on the battlefield.
