Trump threatens further strikes on Iran after declaring ceasefire "over"

Trump threatens further strikes on Iran after declaring ceasefire
New shots fired against Iran by the US President

A new strike against Iran tonight (8/7/2026) was foreshadowed by US President Donald Trump. "They launched some drones and a missile against ships because they were in the Strait of Hormuz, where they have every right to be. So, we hit them very hard last night. We will probably hit them hard tonight (8/7/2026) as well. I will give them a little warning, we will hit them hard tonight. But we will see how it all unfolds. No, I am not happy with them," Trump stated during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the NATO Summit in Ankara. The statements by Trump came just a few hours after he declared the US ceasefire with Iran "over," in the wake of Iranian attacks against merchant ships near Hormuz, although he hinted that he would allow negotiations to continue.

However, the President argued that Iran's leaders were constantly misleading him, appearing open to a peace deal during negotiations only to break their word later. "They agree to everything and then they go, hold a press conference, and say we didn't even discuss it," Trump said. "They are crazy, something is wrong with these people." Trump added that he is "not happy" with the regime, saying that he is now considering further strikes even on Wednesday night (8/7/2026). "We could hit them hard tonight, but we will see how it all unfolds," he stated.

"We have open accounts"

At the same time, the American President stated that Washington has "open accounts" with Tehran, following 74 years during which Iran has been "killing people," including American soldiers. Continuing his statements in Ankara regarding the termination of the ceasefire, Trump commented that peace can also be achieved through other means. "We might just do it without a deal," he stated, without providing further clarifications. He accused Iran of deception, saying that it systematically violates agreements and does not keep its promise to halt its nuclear program.

Trump's... bombshell on the truce with Iran

On Wednesday morning (8/7/2026), Trump dropped the... bombshell regarding Iran, declaring the end of the truce. "It is a waste of time to deal with them," stated the American President, who always implied that talks with Iran could continue. "As far as I'm concerned, the deal is over. I will talk to our negotiators. They want to continue the talks. They are good people, Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, but they will have to come back to me. From my side, I consider that it is simply a waste of time to deal with Iran," Trump argued.

This is the clearest indication so far that Donald Trump's preliminary agreement with Tehran has essentially collapsed. He also accused Iran of consisting of "dirty players" because, as he said, it targeted commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, violating the truce. The American President argued that the US is wasting its time talking to Iran, hinting that he now prefers taking action instead of diplomacy. "We must rid ourselves of their cancer, their cancer," he stated. "And you know what you do? You have to cut out the cancer early. That's how I see it," Trump advised.

The joint declaration of the NATO leaders' Summit

The final communiqué of the NATO Summit in Ankara states that the Allies reached new procurement agreements exceeding 50 billion dollars. In the same communiqué, the allies pledge to increase their collective production capabilities and cooperate with the industrial sector to accelerate innovation.

During the NATO Summit in Ankara, the allies' "unwavering commitment" to Article 5 of the Alliance was reconfirmed—according to which an attack against one ally is considered an attack against all—as well as to the transatlantic bond. The members of NATO also pledged to grant 70 billion euros in military assistance to Ukraine for 2026 and "at least equivalent levels" of support in 2027, according to the statement.
