The position that Oman is not in favor of a toll system for the Strait of Hormuz was formulated by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, following contacts he had with the Foreign Ministers of the GCC, the Gulf Cooperation Council (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman).
As Rubio said, the Gulf countries expressed some serious concerns, while he underlined that the meeting was very productive.
The American Foreign Minister stressed that there is zero support from the GCC states for tolls or fees in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the only thing we care about is whether ships are moving in Hormuz.
"If ships do not move, this will constitute a direct violation of our agreement with Iran" argued Rubio, who regarding Lebanon said that what the USA wants is a peaceful future.
In addition, Rubio said that no discussion took place with the Arab states regarding the reconstruction fund for Iran.
Europe's refusal to allow the use of military bases weakens the transatlantic alliance with the USA, stated Rubio, who underlined that Iran constitutes a greater threat to Europe than to the United States.
