Russia drops bombshell: Unreliable Trump blew up the Alaska agreement – Heading towards a military solution in Ukraine
The Russian leadership now considers Donald Trump unreliable because he could not impose on Ukraine the adherence to the commitments assumed in Alaska.

The United States failed to implement the agreements reached during the 2025 meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska, stated the advisor to the Russian president Yuri Ushakov on Sunday 21 June 2026.

According to him, the Kremlin no longer looks forward to the implementation of these agreements, but to victory and the achievement of its own goals. At the same time, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov underlined that European countries are attempting to alter the stance of Washington regarding the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

Yuri Ushakov stated that one of the parties to the agreements reached in Alaska did not find itself exactly in a position to implement them.

He was referring to the United States.

"At this moment, one side remains committed to the arrangements discussed in Anchorage, while the other side, as it appears — and now we can say it openly — was unable to complete its own journey and adhere to the agreements," he stated in a conversation with the journalist of Vesti, Pavel Zarubin.

The advance on the front

Ushakov noted that Moscow no longer expects the implementation of the Anchorage agreements, but victory and the realization of its own goals.

He also emphasized that Western countries owe to analyze the developments on the front, where the Russian forces, as he mentioned, continue to advance steadily. Those who calculate that they can defeat Russia are wrong, the advisor to the Russian president concluded.

What the agreement included

According to the magazine The Economist, Moscow insists on the implementation of the so-called Anchorage formula — a package of agreements reached during the meeting of presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska on 15 August 2025. This package, according to the publication, foresees the official recognition of the status of Crimea and the Donbass, as well as the de facto acceptance of the existing force separation line in the regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.

However, Kyiv continues to consider these demands unacceptable.

On 4 June 2026, the Russian president Vladimir Putin stated that during the talks in Alaska, the issue of certain compromises regarding Ukraine was raised.

"Russia agrees with the compromises we discussed in Anchorage," he had assured then.

Huge pressure from Europe

European countries are attempting to remove Washington from the course that leads to a definitive settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and to an immediate ceasefire, stated Sergey Lavrov in a conversation with Zarubin.

"In order to gain time again, so that their military industry recovers somewhat. And of course for Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his armed forces. It does not surprise me at all that this line continues," the Russian minister mentioned.

On 19 June, Lavrov stated that the Kremlin detects signs of a possible alteration in the American approach regarding the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.

He recalled that the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, had stated before Congress that Washington cannot function as a mediator in Ukrainian issues, given that it fully supports Ukraine.

Despite all this, Lavrov argued that the implementation of the Anchorage agreements would constitute the first step for the termination of the conflict and would open the way for the settlement of many more issues concerning Ukraine.

On the previous day, the President of France Emmanuel Macron stated that Trump reportedly revised his stance towards the developments in Ukraine, influenced by the resilience of the Ukrainian army and society.

Earlier, the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had announced that European leaders and Trump reached a common position on the conflict, emphasizing that the leaders of the G7 agreed on the need to strengthen support towards Kyiv and increase pressure towards Russia, so that negotiations are facilitated.

The deputy chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the Russian State Duma, Alexei Chepa, estimated that the United States failed to implement the Alaska agreements because of the pressure exerted by European countries.

"The huge pressure exerted by Europe, including the pressure towards Trump, certainly has an impact," he stated to NEWS.ru.

Chepa underlined that the course of the negotiations depends to a large extent on the successes of the Russian Armed Forces and that the main weight of developments will continue to lie on the Russian positions on the front. At the same time, he expressed the estimation that the consultations between Moscow and Washington will continue.
