The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, stated that negotiations between the United States and Iran will begin following the signing of the memorandum of understanding on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland. According to Takht-Ravanchi, the Iranian delegation will be led by the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, while the American negotiators will be headed by US Vice President JD Vance. "Switzerland will host the signing ceremony, however, the exact location has not yet been determined. The next round of negotiations will begin immediately after the signing," Takht-Ravanchi declared, noting that "the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States to end the war in Switzerland will take place either digitally or in person." Referring to a recent meeting held by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi with several ambassadors and heads of foreign delegations in Tehran, he mentioned it was "a very good opportunity to explain the indirect talks between the two countries through intermediaries, as well as the content of the memorandum of understanding."
Takht-e-Ravanchi stated that Araghchi explained the framework of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US at the meeting, adding: "It was also emphasized that the war has ended, and emphasis was placed on ending hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon." Elsewhere in his statements, the Deputy Foreign Minister mentioned that the memorandum between Iran and the United States will be signed in Switzerland on Friday, without the exact location having been finalized. He added that it remains unknown how long the talks in Switzerland will last and that the details have not yet been defined. When asked if the negotiations might last longer than sixty days, he replied: "It is not clear. It is too early to judge. We have said that they will last at least sixty days."
Regarding the nuclear program
Takht-e-Ravanchi also stated that the memorandum of understanding does not delve into the details of the nuclear issue, noting that nuclear matters will be the subject of final negotiations and will focus on Iran's uranium enrichment, the country's stockpiles, and its nuclear needs. The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister also responded to a question regarding Araghchi's statement that a new attack on Lebanon would constitute a violation of the memorandum, given that new Israeli attacks occurred in Lebanon yesterday. "The memorandum of understanding explicitly underlines the agreement to end the war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. There is a clear understanding on this, and the United States has committed to ending the war on all fronts," the Iranian official underscored.
