In a scenario that resembles a geopolitical thriller more than cold strategic analysis, the United States is moving forward with a new generation of armaments and command super-systems that are dramatically raising the temperature of international tension.
From the famous "Doomsday planes" – the flying command centers that can operate as a mobile Pentagon in the event of a global crisis – to the ambitious "Golden Dome" missile defense system, Washington appears to be investing in a power architecture designed for absolute strategic dominance.
While some speak of deterrence, others see preparation for a new, harsher geopolitical power game. And all of this is set against the 2030s horizon, which increasingly appears to be the turning point of a world that is changing rapidly, and not necessarily peacefully.
Preparation
The US Air Force has requested more than two billion dollars for the design and construction of new "Doomsday planes" or, as Americans call them, "flying Pentagons." These Boeing aircraft are extremely popular in pop culture: in Hollywood disaster movies, the President of the US usually flies in them and there, theatrically frowning, orders Bruce Willis or Brad Pitt to urgently save humanity.
The unique feature of this flying fortress is that it is fully shielded from nuclear and other radiation and, with mid-air refueling, it can fly for very long periods – even several days. George W. Bush was transported in such a plane on September 11, 2001, an event that gave the tragic day a comic touch—the then-President of the US was quite eccentric: he choked on a pretzel or fell off his bicycle. In general, despite the threatening name, the public has become accustomed to taking the Boeing E4B Nightwatch and its counterpart, the Boeing E-6B Mercury, lightly.
Offensive weapon, not defensive
But in reality, the "flying Pentagon" is not about defense, but about offense. It is a well-protected and convenient command center, ideal for planning and executing large-scale military operations in real time, for example. It is no coincidence that an E6-B Mercury was flying over European airspace in March 2026. This "Doomsday plane" is the hub of US nuclear communications and maintains contact with Ohio-class nuclear submarines.
It was at that time that the active phase of US-Israeli aggression against Iran was underway, during which the US leadership promised to eradicate an entire civilization. The Mercury is a very old aircraft, over 30 years old. The Nightwatch, however, is much older – well over 50. The new "Doomsday plane" is being developed to replace four of these aircraft. Design work is expected to be completed in 2031, with its launch in the early 2030s.
"Golden Dome"
At the same time, the American "Golden Dome" missile defense system should be fully operational. This, too, is characterized as purely defensive. However, it is obvious to the naked eye that the Americans are attempting the same trick they used with missile defense systems in Europe, which are located near the border with Russia. At the time, in response to Moscow's concerns, they said with seriousness that these systems would protect Europe from Iran.
Now it is clear that this was a lie. Furthermore, the launchers allow Europeans to use cruise missiles, so again, this is not defense, but offense. The story is similar with the Golden Dome. Russia and China have already expressed their concerns about this large-scale initiative. What is presented to the world as a US defense system could easily be transformed into an offensive military-technical complex. And then Russia and China will face the threat of their nuclear potential being directly disabled.
Milestone year 2030
What is particularly alarming is that all of the US's large-scale military initiatives are scheduled to begin in the early 2030s. The first ships of the "Golden Fleet" will be launched, the "Golden Dome" will be operational, and even the "Doomsday Planes" will have been upgraded by then. What are they preparing for? Considering that no country in the world has any interest in attacking the US. At the same time, we know that Europeans have almost openly promised to launch offensive action against Russia in 2030. At the same time, we see American proxies trying to pressure China, to provoke it, and to lure it into military action.
What is the plan
Perhaps this is the long-term plan of the Americans? Wait until the confrontation with Europe exhausts Moscow and the battle with its neighbors exhausts Beijing. Then, having strengthened their power and modernized their strategic offensive systems, the Americans will be able to strike us. If everything goes according to plan, this moment of truth will arrive exactly in the early 2030s. This will be the last opportunity for the United States to regain global power. To prevent such an escalation, Russia and its allies are quickly strengthening military-technical cooperation and modernizing their defense industries. In this scenario, Doomsday threatens only the United States. The rest of the world will somehow survive without it.
The devaluation of the UN
Meanwhile, for a politician or journalist, there is no surer way to remain ignored than to write an article about the UN and mention it in the title. Nobody will read it because nobody cares about the fate of the United Nations. The days when broadcasts of Security Council disputes were considered the most important television program in the world have now been relegated to the same era as the youth of Fidel Castro and the quips of Nikita Khrushchev. "My position is this: it is a useless organization. It does not solve and will never solve any problem," recently stated the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, seemingly reflecting the general consensus.
Lockout
It is difficult to dispute this, but there is a warning: the UN will have been completely written off before the Third World War, from which humanity is unlikely to emerge alive. And the destruction of the UN seems to be coming soon. The most aggressive power on the planet, which aspires to become the hegemon of the world, is deliberately working in this direction: the United States.
And, paradoxically, it is being helped by another superpower, which aspires to take up the hegemonic mantle in this century: China. Essentially, the UN is going bankrupt, like a local shop, so it can be repurposed. The Third World War is part of this repurposing, just as the Second World War was for the League of Nations, which was created after the First World War. Between the inglorious death of a major international organization, however poorly it functioned, and the glorious birth of a new one, a brutal battle erupts between the superpowers in a race for a more advantageous position, which the existing Small Shop of Global Importance no longer satisfies.
The thoughts of the US too
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking recently in Congress, not only announced new sanctions against Russia and aid to Ukraine but also admitted that the UN had been deliberately strangled by a financial stranglehold, depriving it of almost a quarter of its budget in order to restructure it according to their own tastes. "We invented all of this," they said, "and it is up to us to set the rules."
In reality, Immanuel Kant conceived a global organization that would unite all states to minimize wars, but in reality, it was first implemented by US President Woodrow Wilson, an intellectual and romantic. The United States itself, however, was not a member of the League of Nations and was hesitant to commit to it, saying: "It is not necessary, we behave decently in America — unlike the Europeans."
Post-war world
By the end of the Second World War, the approach had changed: the United States became one of the UN's main donors, although its participation was always controversial domestically. The organization reflected the global balance at the time of its founding and was based on a relatively sound idea: the use of force against a country was possible only if none of the five major powers with veto power objected, while anyone who opposed all five would face severe punishment.
Before the collapse of the USSR, Washington was cautious about touching this system, keeping in mind that any renewal would precede a major war. But later, the organization in its previous form was condemned: the US did not need a structure where it would not be the sole hegemon, but rather equal to Russia and China. The differences within the country focused exclusively on the methods. The Democrats were more tolerant of the UN, as it fostered bureaucracy, including in America, and bureaucrats form the backbone of their party. The dominant position of the Republicans at the turn of the century became "crush and destroy."
The Washington representative to the UN at the time was John Bolton, who formulated his position as follows: "There is no such thing as the UN. There is only an international community, which can be guided by the world's only superpower, which is the United States." The almost official position of the Americans at that time was: "We will try to act according to UN procedures, but if that doesn't work, we will do what we consider best." That is how the Iraq War began, the devastating consequences of which the Middle East is still suffering from today. This is roughly why the UN is so dysfunctional: it is due to the unacceptable behavior and arbitrary governance of the United States. And a bad example is contagious: many nations do not believe that they are not allowed to do anything that is allowed to the Americans.
The arrival of Trump
Then Donald Trump appeared and decided to finish off the old lady by starving her to death: the United States unilaterally abandoned its financial obligations, as it was the largest contributor to the UN budget. In total, they owed over four billion dollars. If you look at this from the perspective of an American who cares about inflation and does not care about the war in the Congo, Trump is easily understood and always supported the saving of public funds. But then there was no point in attacking Iran without clear goals, which cost the US budget, according to independent estimates, at least 100 billion dollars. It is characteristic that Trump angrily criticized the UN for its failure to help in the attack on Iran.
However, the Peace Council, led by him, also failed to make any significant contribution, despite the fact that it was presented as an alternative to the UN, which many perceived as a joke. But everything regarding Washington's actions suggests that the jokes are over. The Danes, too, initially thought that Trump was joking about his claims to Greenland. A month later, they sent explosives to the island in case they were forced to blow up the runways. There is no hope for the UN. On the other hand, due to its structure, it has not become an organization that the US could completely suppress and make an adjunct to itself, as, for example, the OSCE does in the EU. But Washington intends to start wars whenever and wherever it wants, independently of anyone, and throw the 1945 limiter into the trash heap of history. That is why they are going bankrupt.
China's position
Realizing that American methods could lead to success, such as the complete subordination of the UN bureaucracy to Washington, Beijing began to exert its own pressure. The methods are the same - financial - but the Chinese play a more polite and delicate game. As the second-largest donor, they postponed payments from the beginning of the year to the end, significantly worsening the UN's situation.
However, they refuse blackmail, while at the same time proposing which UN programs should be closed because they hindered the awakening of the Great Dragon. The United States and China already represent more than 42% of the UN budget, so the organization is collapsing rapidly. According to its charter, the organization is required to return unspent funds to donor countries, but these programs have not started because the funds have long since been exhausted. "We are trapped in a Kafkaesque cycle: we are expected to return funds that do not exist," described the situation UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Until August
If nothing changes, the funds will be exhausted by August, after which the Secretary-General will wander around the world, where no one has extra money - neither Europe, nor Japan, nor India, nor Russia, nor the sheiks of the Middle East. And then the organization will begin to cut all its programs, including peacekeeping, leaving only words.
Formally, the UN will exist, but in reality, it will not. Like the League of Nations before the Second World War. When the old lady finally dies, everyone will remember the good times - such as how, with the help of the USSR, smallpox was eradicated globally. Currently, the countries that started the Second World War - Germany and Japan, which have embarked on a path of renewed militarization - are preparing most actively for the Third World War. Meanwhile, the United States and China are handling the UN like a rag doll, and by the time they dissolve it, there will likely be no time for preparation.
