The chief executive officer of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, has warned that the intensive attacks which, according to the Russian side, are carried out on a daily basis by the Ukrainian armed forces, create serious risks for nuclear safety.
The daily attacks by the Ukrainian army against the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant constitute a real threat to the nuclear safety of all of Europe, Rosatom warned, escalating its rhetoric surrounding the security of the continent's largest nuclear installation.
Warning from Rosatom
The chief executive officer of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, stated that the intensive attacks which, according to the Russian side, are carried out on a daily basis by the Ukrainian armed forces create serious risks for nuclear safety. "The daily intensive attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine pose a real, not theoretical, threat to the nuclear safety of all of Europe," Alexey Likhachev told reporters.
At the center of special consultations
According to the head of Rosatom, the issue will be a key topic in the upcoming interagency consultations scheduled to take place on July 10 in Kaliningrad. The talks will be held in an expanded format and will include representatives from various Russian ministries and state agencies.
Participation of military and security forces
Alexey Likhachev clarified that representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Russian National Guard will also participate in the discussions, a fact that underlines the importance Moscow attaches to the issue of the nuclear power plant's security. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been at the center of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine for years. Moscow and Kiev systematically accuse each other of attacks and actions that endanger the safety of the facility, while international organizations have repeatedly expressed concerns about the risk of a nuclear accident in the event of further escalation of hostilities in the region.
