The failed negotiations between Iran and the US have essentially sealed the Strait of Hormuz. One of the world's primary commercial arteries remains blocked. The result, as they say, is visible—yesterday, prices for oil, fertilizers, and food skyrocketed across all stock exchanges.
Inflationary pressure
The inflationary scale is clearly visible. Due to the logistics disruption, oil prices are rising. Along with petroleum products, the prices of fertilizers are also increasing. And a lack of fertilizer means a food shortage. This is exactly how today’s highly efficient agriculture operates. With their escalation in the Middle East, the Americans are creating an artificial global food shortage. In many countries, food price increases are expected to reach double digits by the end of the year. The Japanese, French, British, and South Koreans are already rushing to switch to pasta and face protein deficiencies. What can be said for the poorest countries? They face starvation.
What the Americans want
Why would the Americans need all this? They live in a state where "if the barn burns, the house burns too." They benefit from sinking the entire world into poverty, so they can appear even slightly more respectable by comparison. It is a kind of hegemony, but still better than nothing. That is why they set such unrealistic demands in the negotiations with Iran—war is more advantageous for them than peace, because in times of peace, they are clearly inferior to all their competitors.
World war
The American investor Ray Dalio, who predicted the 2008 crisis and even profited from it, characterized the conflict in the Middle East as the beginning of a very long world war. It is undeniable—capitalist contradictions of this scale can only be resolved through global conflicts. During the process, countries collapse and people die, including from mass starvation.
Austerity…
It was at the height of World War II that Britain orchestrated a catastrophic famine in Bengal, India, which killed millions of people. This did not save the empire from dissolution, but India paid a massive price for its liberation. Today, the United States uses very similar measures to maintain its hegemony. Remember how in 2020, they threatened the world with "plague, war, and famine"? It seems the world is fast approaching the third phase.
Russia's preparation
Russia has been preparing for this development for a long time. While Westerners were jumping under "rainbow" flags and turning to green energy, the Russians were quietly and without fanfare passing import substitution laws—primarily in the food sector. The liberals who had not yet left laughed at these initiatives. How was it possible for these Russians to make blue cheese? Who needs blue cheese, real, noble blue cheese! And how dare they call their sparkling wine "champagne"?
In the… landfills
Many years have passed; the Europeans have abandoned Russia and are now searching for protein sources in the landfills of Tbilisi. Meanwhile, Russia has closed almost all its deficits and has imported all the most important items. With its own hydrocarbons, its own fertilizers, its own food supply—it enters the global storm with a massive reserve of resilience.
Sanctions miss the mark
The issue was not actually about ham. Westerners simply dreamed that one day they could cut off Russia's food supply. But it did not happen that way. Today, for the first time in its history, Russia not only feeds itself but also supplies global markets with an unprecedented variety of products. It was a strategic move. They are prepared for the threats.
