Deadly ambush: Hezbollah decimates IDF with 52 attacks in 24 hours – Israel deploys sixth division
The IDF continues its ground invasion of southern Lebanon to create a buffer zone at least 30 kilometers wide from the Lebanon-Israel border.

Hezbollah is evolving into a true nightmare for the Israeli military, as it continues to strike IDF positions and northern Israel with extreme intensity. This occurs despite the Israeli army's deepening advance into southern Lebanon, aimed at establishing a security zone stretching from the current border to the Litani River. According to Iranian media reports, Hezbollah issued 52 separate statements on Monday, April 6 alone, regarding offensive operations against the Israelis. Hezbollah fighters are not limiting themselves to rocket fire but are setting lethal and highly bloody ambushes for IDF soldiers.

The ambush

While the Israelis continue to be surprised by successive Hezbollah operations, media outlets have revealed details of an ambush organized and executed by Hezbollah between the al-Muhaysibat area in the town of al-Taybeh and the town of al-Qantara (Beidar al-Nahr). Israeli media reported, despite standard censorship regarding casualty figures, that one soldier was killed and approximately 20 soldiers and officers were wounded. The ambush targeted an Israeli force attempting to cross the river, leading to the failure of a strategic mission and forcing the units to retreat.

Decimating elite IDF units

According to Israeli television’s Channel 15, a joint force from the 890th Paratrooper Battalion and the elite Yahalom engineering unit was sent on a "critical" mission to survey territory beyond the Litani River after 36 hours of preparation. When the soldiers reached the area, their movement was detected, and the ambush began: intense fire with dozens of mortars and missiles within minutes, targeting the exact location of the Israelis. A sergeant was killed and many were injured. Evacuation efforts continued under fire, but mounting casualties and the loss of the element of surprise rendered the mission impossible.

Military equipment left behind

The channel emphasized that the Yahalom unit left behind bulldozers, inflatable boats, and engineering equipment, while the 890th Battalion remained temporarily in the heart of the ambush zone before a full retreat was ordered. Later, Hezbollah published evidence of the equipment abandoned on Lebanese soil. Israeli Channel 13 reported that attempts to expand the Israeli operation beyond the Litani River, in the al-Khurdali area, were also repelled by Hezbollah, resulting in the death of one soldier and the wounding of several others, including a senior officer, and the abandonment of three military bulldozers.

Further invasion prevented

According to military analysis in the Israeli press, the Hezbollah ambush prevented the expansion of the Israeli operation. Hezbollah had previously issued a statement noting that Israeli forces were trapped in a deadly ambush on the al-Taybeh–al-Qantara axis at the Lebanon–Palestine border, causing damage equivalent to the destruction of 10 battle tanks and 2 bulldozers.

52 attacks in a 24-hour period

Remarkably, on Monday alone, Hezbollah issued 52 communiqués detailing its offensive operations. According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, Hezbollah released these 52 military statements to counter the movements of the Israeli occupiers on the Lebanon-Israel border and to strike positions, bases, and facilities of the Israeli army and its settlements in northern Israel.

According to the details of the announcements, Hezbollah struck the Hurfish settlement with rockets at 00:30. Attacks on bases

In response to the continuous bombardment of civilians and destruction of Lebanese homes, Hezbollah fighters struck the Gfaiet Volga base, belonging to the IDF's Northern Command, at 14:30 with a specialized rocket and a squadron of kamikaze drones. The base is located 75 km from the border, west of Al-Khudireh. At 16:50, Hezbollah hit the Snobar logistics base in the occupied Syrian Golan, while fighters struck infrastructure in Ma’alot Tarshiha. At 16:50, another logistics base in the Karm Ben Zimra settlement in Galilee was hit, followed five minutes later by infrastructure in Safed. At 19:30, artillery positions in Aita al-Sha’ab and at 20:00 in eastern Sa’sa’ were hit. At 20:30, the Hunin and Al-Marj bases were attacked for a second time.

IDF deploys a sixth division

The IDF has announced the deployment of a sixth division to southern Lebanon amidst the ongoing ground operation against Hezbollah. Last week, the 98th Division, an elite unit of paratroopers and commandos, began "targeted ground operations against additional targets in southern Lebanon," according to the military. The IDF also states that troops have "completed their deployment" along the so-called "anti-tank line," several kilometers inside Lebanon, from where Hezbollah could launch guided anti-tank missiles at Israeli communities.

The Israeli military reports that troops are now "continuing operations in the area to strengthen the forward defensive line and neutralize threats to residents of the north." According to the military, five IDF divisions are now participating in the ground operation: the 146th and 162nd have advanced in the western sector, while the 91st and 36th have conducted raids in the eastern sector. Additionally, the 210th "Bashan" Regional Division is based in the Mount Dov area and has conducted several raids on the Lebanese side of the mountain.
